G Charlie Tanner (6-3 7/8, 305) ran 5.20 and 5.12 in the 40. Tanner posted a 36-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 3-inch broad jump and a 4.38-second short shuttle ??? all numbers that would have put him in the top-10 amongst offensive linemen at the combine. His vertical jump would have beaten out Oklahoma T Trent Williams' top mark of 34 1/2 inches, while his 4.38-second short shuttle would have shattered the best mark at the combine ??? a time of 4.51 second set by Arizona State OL Shawn Lauvao. Honestly, I think Vlad could be the longterm replacement for Woody at RT. Even if he starts at LG this year. Looks like we have a few good guards.
ok, so he has the explosiveness to play in the NFL. But does he have the technique? Most of those measurables mean nothing when it comes to OL prospects.
No question!! In fact, GOD forbid, if D-brick went down Vlad could move to LT in a pinch...not a permanent solution. Vlad's normal position is OG /RT.
Technique can be coached. He certainly has the size and athleticism to play the position, so hopefully Callahan can get the best out of him and Ducasse. Tanner could turn into a decent backup guard.
Someone asked for info, I provided. Kid has potential, and we need line depth. IMO, it's a good pickup.
We can hope that something like that happens. The highest Warren can be on the depth chart is at dime back, so he's going to have to earn his roster spot by making plays on special teams.
I think Ducasse will be a Brandon Moore type. Nasty run blocker (The Leon and TJ runs against the Titans in 08 were all Brandon Moore. The Jets love that play.) and he'll be average against the pass. That's what the Jets want from their offense. It fits right in. I'm happy with the picks. The Defense got what it was missing, beacuse it held everyone to enough points except Peyton Manning while a overall mediocre offense scored just enough points to win in the playoffs. Now with Sanchez's progression, his weapons and basically the same line, the offense scores more points and has less turnovers, the D stays the same, and this team begins to kick the shit out of people. That's the FO's plan... You know this shit, but I typed it out for everyone else to see.
Tanner is a physical beast, I like that. His numbers would've boosted his value sky high in teh combine. Give him a year or two to learn technique and he could be the LG one day if Slauson somehow doesn't work out.
