Well, it looks like Leon is not in the long term plans. I am surprised we traded up for a RB though because it looks like we'll have Leon this season (and you have to imagine there will be quick and shifty RBs around in next year's mid-rounds) and Cam Thomas, a huge DT from North Carolina was still available. Maybe Rex and Co. knew they didn't want Thomas and are OK with using Pouha to spell Jenkins (and they must expect Jenkins to be back 100%). We will have to wait and see. Either way, I am surprised we traded away other picks to add a 4th guy into a rotation of RBs who all expect carries.
I would love to see any of them traded. But you have to imagine we've been working on moving those guys since Thursday. I really don't know why the team is so eager to move Leon. We haven't seen him since the injury. If he comes back in the same form, he can hurt us elsewhere.
i just can't see them moving B. Thomas w/ Taylor being a 1 year pass rusher. Faneca, Leon & Clemens on the other hand I'm sure are all being shopped. However, w/ everyone expecing Faneca to be cut, I'm not sure if we can even get a 6th for him
I don't think that Leon will be the player he was...the fracture was in a spot that could never be 100%. I think the Jets know something and this is why they took an RB instead of a DE at this point.
I'm guessing because of his shitty agent, mostly. I doubt Leon wants to still be here very much, either.
McNight is not Leon. I just googled some you-tube videos and he just doesn't have the elusiveness that our healthy Leon had. I'm actually a little bummed over this. "The Sporting News list the following as his weaknesses "a slight frame and struggled in college to avoid injuries, including many minor dings; must prove he is tough enough for the NFL. Is not an aggressive runner and has a tendency to dance to avoid contact while searching for a hole. Tries to bounce almost all rushing attempts outside if he does not see a hole initially; will not lower shoulder and attack line of scrimmage to gain tough yardage. Is not good in short-yardage situations. Runs upright, leading to hard hits and limiting his ability to run after contact. Does not gain nearly as many yards after contact as you would expect for someone with his elusiveness."
I was almost positive I was getting to read Cam Thomas when the Jets traded up.. still don't understand why we haven't addressed DL..
I think Leon is in the long term plans as long as he shows he can return to form sometime this year. If he can, our dept chart would be Greene, Leon, Mcknight over the next couple of years and add another RB via the draft/fa/whatever. The only RB not in our long term plans is LT, he could be gone after this year depending on performance.
Although I like Joe McKnight and think he can contribute....i dislike this pick. This has Terry Bradway written all over it. Why do we continue to ignore the DL?! I understand Devito and Potuiti(sp?) are still young w/ alot of upside..but are we ever going to address this position with a draft pick head on?!Other than Wotton and Thomas their wasn't alot available..i get that..but instead we trade up for essentially a 3rd down RB?! Purely speculation..but there are alot of rumblings that John Henderson could be on the trading block for Jax. Jax could use a second RB to spell MJD and Leon happens to be from near jacksonville. Also Rex loves guys he saw twice a year in the afc central. Any chance we see Leon for Henderson??
Maybe they don't feel it's a need, we added a passruher via FA and we now have the potential to have one of the best defensive backfields in recent memory.
yeah not sure about this. maybe there is a trade brewing for a defensive lineman thats why we didnt pull the trigger. osi maybe?
Osi is NOT a 3-4 DE... OLB, possibly, but he still hasnt recovered from that nasty knee injury a couple years back, plus he is getting on to the end of his career, Osi is not the kind of guy we should try and trade for at this stage...
Like I said, could be John Henderson who is on the block and rex knows very well from his dog days in baltimore.
I think Rex sees the defensive line as a unit that requires a great system and not necessarily great players. I don't remember us getting many sacks last year, yet we still had the # 1 Defense in the NFL.
