Is there any way at all that the Jets could somehow, whether by standing pat or trading down, end up with McCourty and Mt. Cody?
It's possible, depending on how the board falls. Although, if Cody makes it out of the first, he still has to get past a lot of 3-4 teams to make it to our 2nd round pick. So it's unlikely.
I say stay where we are if we're in position to get earl thomas or pierrepaul (big "if" I know) if not and we feel confident we could still get taylor mays if we trade down I say go for it
oh gosh another Mays is a bust guy Im sure, I feel confident in him he's physical enough to get the job done thats for sure and I dont have to preach about how hes done this or that his accolades say it all he reminds me Sean Taylor
Don't you know not to speak ill of the dead? He is nothing like Sean Taylor since Taylor could actually cover. No one ever questioned Mays' physicality, it's his ability to cover and, you know, play safety that is his biggest problem. Watch his game film and you'll see some of the worst angles ever taken in coverage. He might work out as a LB, some teams have him as one. The problem is that those teams want to turn him into a Tampa 2 MLB. He doesn't fit the Rex's system. We already have Smith, Pool and Digs as rotational, heavy hitters. We don't need to spend a high draft pick on a guy who cannot cover.
better coverage skills can be taught and who better to help his development then the best coverage player to have ever played the game along with a coah like Rex, all this sort of things can be taught but you cant teach speed and physicality plus hes obviously instinctive ( All-American and All-Pac 10 three times) to have lasted this long at safety without being converted to a LB I say give the kid a chance and he will develop I mean I would honestly rather see Earl Thomas on the bench but it would take quite a bit to make that happen and considering if we went that high up we need to be looking at DE like Derrick Morgan or Pierrepaul
He lasted at safety in the NCAA because of his speed and his power. That's not going to save him in the NFL. He's Darnell Bing 2.0.
Kiper again and again proves himself more and more iditioic a stud at 3-4 DE nd the Jets who always take the BPA on defense as well as it being a need would definitely be taken. Damn Kiper your losin your touch... if you ever had one.
Everything I've read seems to say that the Jets regard the board as something like: 5-10 really good players and then a big mess in the middle of 70-80 players. If we can trade from 29 to 38 and pick up a third, and the board stacks the way I think it's stacked, the Jets are going to do that trade in a heartbeat. Odrick is great, but DE's in a 3-4 are more workmanlike. If Earl Thomas were available, now you're talking (probably one of the 5-10 top players). But there's no way he drops past 18 in any conceivable scenario.
