Judges didn't say shit. The DA didn't pursue the case because it would've been hard to get a jury to convict "beyond a reasonable doubt." Remember OJ?

This guy has an MO and there are 3 or 4 incidents besides this one that show he has a pattern of disgusting behavior.

    Pace needs worry about himself.

If I was a Steeler fan (and I thank the good Lord every night I'm not) I would have a really hard time rooting for a guy who does this kind of stuff.

The point is, did it happen or didn't it, and we have a means for determining that. It's called a trial. Taking the "It was in the papers, it must be true" approach is called a presumption of guilt. 'Innocent until proven guilty' is part of the legal system, but it's also just a good way for decent human beings to behave.

The big issue here, and the reason Roethlisberger should be pissed off, is that by handing down a suspension, the NFL creates the perception that Roethlisberger is guilty of rape. People will say, he got accused, he got punished, clearly he must have done it. He probably can't even defend himself in the court of public opinion, criticizing the process and the commissioner's role as judge jury and executioner would probably make his punishment even worse. So the NFL has essentially made his future employment contingent on his acceptance of being labeled a rapist, despite never having been convicted of rape, or even charged. That's bullshit.

If he did rape that girl, and he can't be charged with it because of police incompetence, that's a shame. If you think he's a scumbag, don't buy his jersey. But until he has a chance to defend himself and a court determines that he committed rape, he shouldn't be punished for rape, by the state, the NFL, or anybody else.

I'm aware, by the way, that what I'm saying conflicts with the Personal Conduct Policy. That's kind of the point. I don't think it's right that the NFL has that much power over it's employees, that it can end careers, that it can destroy a player's image in order to protect it's own. Ben Roethlisberger now goes down in history as a rapist, and as far as the state is concerned and as far as you and I know, he never raped anybody. But, the NFL has asserted to it's public and it's sponsors that it doesn't condone rape. That's a tremendously unfair outcome.

All of the NFL employees are made aware of the policy and the code of conduct at the onset of employment. If you don't think that you can adhere to it, or it is too stringent, or the commissioner has too much power by being judge, jury and executioner, you have the choice to seek employment elsewhere. This was not the first time, the first time, the league gave him the benefit of the doubt. If he had had an ounce of common sense, he would not have been in the same situation so soon after.

The sad part is that Pace will someday have to face his daughter concerning this issue.

This has probably been discussed at some point in this thread, but "the judge said he was innocent" and "the courts say he didn't do it" are absurdly misinformed points.

The DA didn't prosecute. There's a fucking huge difference between being found not guilty in a court of law and a district attorney saying "I can't get a conviction in this case, so I'm not going to prosecute." The district attorney himself was very, very careful to highlight this difference.

If you want to go all ostrich in favor of Ben Rapelisberger, give some props to OJ in the same breath. He was actually declared innocent.

its not about rape/alleged rape/or any sexual act, although that certainly doesn't make matters better.

its about his actions outside the nfl, period.

Thank god the justice system doesnt work like this. Any pissed off girl can claim rape and the guys going to jail in your court.

Ever hear of the Duke lacrosse team scandal? How about William McCaffrey? There are some crazy broads out there. Some crazy enough to frame a wealthy NFL QB to get some fame/payoff out of it. Cant wait to see her book hit the shelves.

word, Ben tried to rape a chick. He should be in jail.

A six game suspension is getting off easy. If I was his team mate, I would beat his ass.

I don't like the Steelers, and hate to compliment them in anyway...but sure is a classy move to get rid of this fucker even though he is basically a top 5 QB in the league. Brought them two superbowls too.

Thumbs up to the Steelers Franchise/Organization for trying to get rid of this scum bag.

who should have the power to determine who gets to play in the NFL if not the NFL? that's just ludicrous. as long as the league doesn't violate any civil rights it has the right to determine who gets to work for it or not, and the idea that such power is unique to the NFL is ridiculous -- every employer has that ability, so there is nothing valid about your assertion.

and Roethlisberger came out and said he'd accept whatever punishment he gets, so he is clearly a participant in his image if it gets tarnished by a suspension because he approves of it. but that ignores the fact that suspension or not, his image was already damaged so you can't attempt to blame that on the suspension.

Large payoff to be seen in victims bank account in 6 months...........

Calvin, in case you have not heard, this asshole has done this before and gotten away with it. The man has enough money to go out an buy the best snatch money can buy, instead he goes around raping women because he feels he's the QB and he is somehow intitled.

An tell me what the hell is this butthead doing hanging around college bars looking to bang freshmen... While many here think the punishment does not fit the crime, try telling that to the girl he had traped in that bathroom with two COPS guarding the front door to keep her friends from saving her from this asshole.

An no this case was not taken to in front of a jury, yet there were reasons, get the facts before you judge. The crime scene was scrubbed with bleach before it could be processed and there was DNA evidence to prove contact did occur, just in trace amounts. The victim and her family knew that she would be dragged thru the mud by his high priced lawyers and wanted to avoid the harm this sideshow would do to her.

Now factor in the NFL looking into this matter because Goodell just did not pull this decision out of his ass, and you know they found out more them=n the public is aware, and this asshole is lucky he still has a job...

So Calvin we love you man, but you know you ned to defer to the front office on these matters. An as you said at the beginning of your statement "I don't know all the facts in this case" well enough said, so just keep your foot out of you mouth and let asshole Ben try to keep hemself out of prison !!!!

I am going to test a regular guy theory..............

Well I think I am going to go to a college town with some of my homey's and get a bunch of young broads drunk. Have one of my homey's tell a particularly drunk one there is Bags of loot down the hallway. Then I am gonna follow the really loopy girl down the hallway with my prick hanging out. Lock her in a room and bang her before she could say no. Of course my buddy's won't let anyone enter..........

I want to see how that will work out for me.

The judges never said anything. It never went to court. The prosecutors never pursued a criminal case.
