Uncapped year, yes. Bottomless wallet, no. Woody doesn't want to spend his life savings on this team, and there are plenty of players (Mangold, Harris, Revis) that will get an extension before they contract expires. Yes, I know about the option on Revis's contract. I'm betting they would prefer to just extend him 5 years.
Ahem. Did you miss the part about Woody having to pay just about his entire salary this season anyway thanks to that guaranteed money?
Yes, I must have. I'm at work, so I'm skimming through all the good posts. Yours didn't qualify...
How does one "dangle" Faneca or Clemens ? Faneca is a great run blocker, but about as good as an open hole in pass blocking Clemens is........well Clemens (and I used to be a supporter....)
Are you kidding me? Alan Faneca has a place for just about every team in the league... ...at the entrance.
Well if they aren't extending them before the season (which they don't have to do), then why release Faneca for money reasons? I understand that even though there is no cap we can't just spend a fortune and be irresponsible. But this will be Faneca's last year with the team no matter what probably. Why not get the one more year out of him?
Trading Fanny makes a lot more sense than releasing him. Releasing him would only save 1.3 million while we'd still have to pay him over 7 million. Those numbers are reversed next year, so he will be cut if not dealt this year. With no takers, however, there is no good reason to cut him. I smell Iupati...
agree about the whiff of iupati.....jets are trying to set themselves up if he falls to 29.... not a terrible idea to unload fanny - u can probably be OK "hiding" a rookie OL in between ferguson and mangold. jil
I've always liked Brunell. He'd make a fine #2. That would be cool. All my fav players are coming to the Jets for at least a small stint.
I like Brunell if the Jets plan on using him as a mentor for Sanchez but if Sanchez goes down than I would rather just throw Ainge in there. Brunell's arm is shot and since they would mostly just be handing off then I'd go with the guy who is more familiar with the playbook.
We better not be dangling Ellis. With a need on the opposite side of the line already, that's just stupid.
I like Faneca, at this point I'm not really sure I want to retool the offensive line at this point. Yeah Faneca is not perfect but he is still part of the best line in football. Maybe in a year when Sanchez is more developed and we can both run and pass the ball just as well but I'm not sure about pulling this trade, this offseason
