Jets dangling Faneca, Clemens By Tim Graham I think Rex, and Tanny have gone insane. Faneca is on his way out though..how many years does he have on his contract with us? Tanny, and Rex are obviously taking alot of risks with these new pick ups, but they don't want a 1 year window. Obviously trying to cover their tracks.
I'd be surprised if we couldn't get something for Faneca he's worth at least a 4th or 5th still. Clemens should be the door prize for whoever asks first. Id be surprised if we can get a 7th.
While he does suck in pass protection, whats going to happen with our run game? Will we take a step back? Also does this mean that they think slauson is ready or are they planning to draft an Oline men with the first pick?
Football Outsiders managing editor Bill Barnwell recently produced a study of linemen who blow the most pass-blocking assignments. Faneca was the NFL's most frequently beaten left guard. He gave up seven sacks and three quarterback hurries. O-Line Article
Trading Faneca just doesn't make sense to me. Who'll replace him? A rookie? Not only would this tie us up in the first two rounds, forcing us to take a guard/tackle prospect, but we'd also lose out on BPA. I just don't see the logic.
He's old and he's a terrible pass blocker. However, we are a run-oriented team that are Superbowl contenders. In a year where people are starting to say "Superbowl or bust," I don't see why we get rid of Faneca and ruin that offensive line chemistry; they have played 35 consecutive games together
No one is going to give the Jets shit, with Faneca due 7.5 million this season. If the plan is to bring in Iupati, I'd be okay with it. I was hoping the team would spend their first round pick on D though. Iupati has the tools to be excellent, I'm hearing.
hunter and slauson have been developing in the system. maybe callahan has one of them ready to step in.
2 ways to look at it, Jets led the league in rushing last year, and he helped alot. But by the same token we didn't throw much and he still gave up 6 1/2 sacks and Sanchez is mobile...
Well given the recent acquisitions one may think we will certainly be throwing the ball alot more. I'm not sure what Hunter and Slausen bring to table as far as pass blocking but maybe the FO feels these guys would upgrade the position with their skill set.
Throw in Gholston too and maybe we can get another 2nd rounder for these 3. In all seriousness, Faneca is going to be tough to replace even though he's on the downside of his career. Experienced and a top level run blocker aren't readily available out there. I think he's got one year left in the tank and we should keep him unless we can get really good value for him.
if they are looking to trade faneca before they draft someone to replace him they better feel they have his replacement on the roster. if they don't this would fly in the face of everything else they have been doing this offseason.
