No way. Leftwich has atleast had some decent moments in this league and has spot-started before. (Disclaimer: I'm not saying Leftwich is good or even a good backup) Clemens' only accomplishment in the NFL was a couple of passes in Week 2 2007 @ Baltimore. He's dirt. A competent GM would laugh at the idea of giving up a draft pick for shitty ass Clemens.
This thread makes me laugh at the thoughts of 2006/2007 when many people were convinced Kellen Clemens was the future. Oh universe, you silly bitch you.
He's a nice guy, he actually knows a good amount about the game, he can identify and read plays well enough from the sidelines and despite his misguided opinion that he can start on an NFL team he's always acted like a team-first player. I certainly don't hate him and wouldn't mind seeing what he can do as a QB coach, he's just a terrible football player.
The sample size we have is just too small to come such a conclusion. He had a really good series against Chargers couple years ago. Had a rusty, below average game last year. Had an up and down year in his second season. I think he is a good backup, just not starting material until proven wrong. The guy was constantly in a competition for the starting job with Chad. I hope he gets traded though. I would really like him to get an opportunity to start for an NFL team and have his dream come true. Maybe he pans out and becomes a decent stop-gap type of a QB.
I can't imagine anyone wasting their money and a pick on him. He lost out to a very raw rookie, and there are plenty of better backup QB's around the league. I wouldn't be surprised if he's out of the league in the next year or two. His chance to wow some people when he started for an injured Sanchez was horrid.
Not really. He didn't play his rookie season. He played half the season in his second year when Chad was ineffective. The following season, Lord Favre took over. Last year, it had to be Sanchez due to his huge rookie contract. This year and all of the following 10+ years, it will be Sanchez Im hoping. So yeah, IMO, KC hasn't had much opportunities to be called trash, whereas he hasn't proven anything besides being a 2nd round pick either.
KC has definitely had a problem with confidence. Since hes been with us, as you say, one thing after another has conspired to keep him off the field, not least himself when hes been given the opportunity, trying to hard ??? Sanchez compared to KC even after 8 games looked all-pro. Not saying that KC is in the Gladys camp here here, but he'll never start an NFL game off sheer talent.
The fact that the front office decided to trade for a new QB in consecutive seasons where Clemens was lined up to be the starter isn't enough of a clue that he just cannot do it?
I don't disagree with you Cato, I just think calling him worthless is a premature statement when he hasn't had a decent shot at it. He played below average in his only real chance he had, that too in his 2nd season when he hadn't seen any field time. His one game last year came after a 22 months period in which he had no more than 15 NFL snaps. I agree with Gustoon as well that he was trying too hard and in affect, played a horrible game. Thats why I want him to be traded. He isn't starting with the Jets as long as Sanchez is healthy, but there could be teams out there where he might be able to atleast get a chance to compete for the starting job.
