I don't dispute he's trash. I don't know how you can be so sure they're thinking strictly 3-4 DE for him though. The only concrete fact the author had was that he has been working out with the d-line. He thinks the Jets are strictly a 3-4 team which makes me really doubt he knows exactly what the plan for Ghost is.
Unless they plan on using more 4 man fronts this year, this just doesnt make much sense.. I mean a 265 pound 34 DE with 2 gap responsibility is gonna just get destroyed.
Bahahahahahah!! So true, he wrecks havoc as a 3-4 DE in Madden. He's so freakin fast and strong. OK, seriously though I don't know what Gholston can possibly do now. It appears he doesn't give a shit about football. If he does, maybe this position change will be good for him. He's very strong and if he can add on a few pounds (someone pass him another steroid) then maybe he can be a nice anchor and tie up some lineman so the real OLB's can do their work.
There's an idea.....let him use roids and play like a wild man until he gets caught and suspended. If we lose him for a few games, who cares? We haven't had him for 2 years now anyway essentially.
I don't know, he is easily the strongest player on the field and the 3-4 DE is probably the easiest position to play on the field isn't it? Just take on blockers and let everyone else rush the passer. We obviously know he sucks at pass rushing and everything a LB is supposed to do, he could be really suited to be a 3-4 DE, if he can put the weight on of course. With him being a gym rat and now that he knows he wont have linebacker responsibilities, he can buy some tubs of weight gainer and get to it. With his frame (he is 6'4") he could probably get up to the prototypical 3-4 DE size.
get him all juiced up, let him have a monster year and trade him for whatever we can get, then laugh all the way to the bank when he gets busted.
I don't dispute at all that they'll be using him at DE in the 4-3 as well as 3-4. What I meant was that we've already seen him at 4-3 DE, and didn't notice a difference. In the end, let's just hope we can get ANYTHING out of this guy. And straight up, I'm all for the steroid suggestion hahahaha.
It was clear he couldn't understand coverage. Playing DE will meathead down his responsibilities. I wish him the best for the Jets' sake
I think we'll see a lot of Vernon Gholston when our defense uses four man fronts. The guy is meant to play with his hand in the ground. If he doesn't have a mediocre season as a situational package player, then he should just quit football.
I read an article that was more detailed than the crap in the op. It said the plan for Gholston was for him to put on 20+ pounds. The feeling was that he can at least occupy blockers etc and his stiffness will not be as big a detriment. I will try and find it because I do not think it was a figment of my imagination.
The only thing that will drive up his value would be some production at the position. Workout alone isn't going to do crap for this junk.
As I said, he's great at tying guys up and driving them back. If we can cut him and sign him back for a minimum contract, I actually wouldn't mind this experiment.
whenever we can cut him the better. just take the dead money hit and save some room in the wallet for the players that need to be re-signed.
well if he's gained 20 lbs then that puts him at 285...needs about 10 more and he should be the ideal size. Of course whether he can 3 tech is another story.
