I would love to get Eric Berry somehow! He would definitely be the missing piece to our defense. Then we can draft for the trench depth!
Eric Berry may even go at #1 pick, wouldn't it be awesome if we could move up the draft board to snag him? No one could make a pass on our secondary. No one. H T T P: sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=cr-safetyberry041510
Why would you think Berry may go #1? To the Rams? Or someone trades with the Rams? For a safety? I haven't heard that anywhere.
Was just quoting the article - back in February Eric Berry had a "very good chance at the No. 1 slot on the board." This guy is going to be a superstar. He's smart, very good athlete, he can drop back in coverage as well as move up in the box to stop the run. He can blitz the QB and sack. He tackles like a fiend, he's a leader, you name it. Scouts are saying he may even be better than Ed Reed.
ND, scouts are saying he may be BETTER than Ed Reed or Polamalu. With Cromartie, Revis and Berry the Jets have a shut down secondary. Imagine what that does?
I agree it would take this much. But you can make all that happen during the draft if he falls to #7 so you know you get him. I know the cost would be huge but I salivate at the thought and I can dream.
Simple fact: We do not have the ammunition to trade up to a spot where we can get Eric Berry without costing us a player who is an integral part of this team's success. Berry would have to fall to 16 for us to get him on draft picks alone. I don't think that Leon is going to be enough to substitute that 2nd round pick and 61 is too valuable a spot for us.
To move up to get berry we'd have to part ways with Leon, our first and second rounders and prob a player like D'brick or Harris if were talking top 5
They might not even accept Leon in a trade. Teams would be asking for Harris, Brick, Mangold, Revis(if they're stupid), Jenkins, maybe Edwards...etc. We might be able to get away with it if we threw in someone like Ellis with our first two picks but Ellis is the only vet who has starter on the DLine healthy over last two seasons and I would not be happy about giving his position to a rookie with only a rotation on the opposite side of the line.
As great a prospect as Berry is, and I want to repeat "A GREAT PROSPECT" (don't want to be accused bashing Berry now), it just would not make sense or cents to trade up to get him. Like many have already mentioned, the compensation needed to get him would be too much. Our roster is pretty solid but not solid to the point we can give up our 2 top picks and/or a player or 2 for a safety. Especially when this safety class has bonified starters as low as the 4th round.
He is a lock for the top 5. If it wasn't for the devalued position and refusal by teams to pay a top rookie contract he would be the top over all pick. He is that talented. Sure we would all love to have him but way too much to give up to move into the top 5.
Ha, yeah it is just a dream. I do agree that he's an obvious blue-chip stud. If I could have one player in this entire draft on the Jets, it'd be Berry. Clearly not gonna happen.
Now that Taylor is signed..... I have a very weird feeling in my gut that we are going to end up with this kid.
