Any team that passes on Berry....with Suh and McCoy off the board, needs their head examined. Trade down a few spots if possible, don't reach for an OT.
I never really thought of trading next years first... but considering it will most likely be a low pick like you said Mr. E, I would be more then willing to trade it with whatever to get Berry. the guy is going to be a future hall of famer
Like WW said, Saffold is an extremely underrated all-around lineman. He was overshadowed because he played on a mediocre team.
That's the problem. Unless someone wants to trade ahead of Seattle to land Eric Berry, they won't be able to trade out. So they'll likely be stuck at 5 - which means they'll have to decide between protecting their "franchise" quarterback or taking a playmaking safety.
This signing definitely affects the draft - stop gap or not. The Jets will be able to take a developmental mid-round OLB and have him learn behind Pace and Taylor, instead of taking one early for an immediate impact. Before the signing, OLB was one of our biggest needs. Now it moves down the list a little further...we can focus on improving the lines and the secondary now.
I'm thinking Eric Norwood or Thaddeus Gibson. We're going to get a 3rd rounder somehow and I think these will be the guys they target wherever that 3rd rounder may be.
As of right now, I think that Nate Allen might be the best option on the board for us at 29. That is a big reason why I believe we need to trade out of that spot. We could trade up OR we could trade down with a team such as Cleveland and still be able to draft Allen or a player of similar caliber.
If we stayed at #29 and thinking of drafting secondary.....McCourty/Jackson is the only option. I Favor McCourty's teams skills over Jackson. I'm not thrilled drafting a Safety at #29....especially Mays and Allen is a slight reach.
Was just throwing a name out there. I just don't want to see us drafting at 29. Unless someone falls we could trade down and get just as good a player.
It doesn't affect it at all, you don't draft for one year. The draft is about the next 5-10 years and Taylor will likely be here for one year so it would be foolish to pass over a prospect we like b/c we signed Taylor.
I've been at this too long, someone we value will fall to #29. I have a strong suspicion that a team will trade up into late rd 1, maybe ahead of the Jets to draft Colt McCoy...pushing a valued player down. I think the Vikes could be targeting McCoy, so it's possible some team could call Tanny to trade down.
Exactly - that's why I mentioned a developmental prospect in the mid-rounds. ...someone like Antonio Coleman or Thaddeus Gibson or Jermaine Cunninghamm. Just because we pass over an OLB in the first round, doesn't mean we're hurting our future. The Jets are in a position to grab a building block for our incredibly old defensive line - that's more important than an OLB at this point. Without a line in front of them, our linebackers will be useless.
