I think the signing makes it more likely that we trade up, but not for an OLB. If Odrick falls to 24, that's the guy I want. Otherwise we should trade down (with Cleveland?) and pick up a 3rd. Do you think this affects the draft at all? Not at all?
I say you're 100% correct. BPA at any of those four positions will mostly be a Jet. Odrick (50/50 chance), Joseph(If the Jets are on the bandwagon), Iupati, Saffold, Mays, Allen, McCourty, Jackson...all possibilities
That'd be very intriguing especially if our team makes a Super Bowl run, because our first rounder would be very late. Eric Berry is my top rated player in this entire draft. If we gave two top picks and two players, I'd like to get at least an extra 4th or 5th from the Browns - they have a lot of picks.
We're not going to be trading up for anyone. Chances are we'll trade down since we have to add a LG to the mix. We'll need someone to replace Faneca.
Crazy idea. Jets shouldn't even consider mortgaging next year's Round 1 pick. Leon has little value....No one made a tender.
With the recent talks about getting rid of Alan Faneca by either trade or cut, I wouldn't be surprised if we made a move to get Iupati or Saffold. I really like Matt Tennant to fill Faneca's role, but Saffold and Iupati are obviously better prospects at guard.
If things go as planned, our team will be picking between 28-32. Eric Berry is the best safety prospect to come out in years. I'm not big on trading future first rounders, but I wouldn't exactly call trading an extremely late first rounder mortgaging the future.
I'm not thrilled ever giving up #1 picks. There are no guarantees the Jets are going to be a final 4 team next year. I don't think the trade the poster considered is even enough to get to #5. Berry won't last past KC....#5 to #29 the jets have to offer more.
The Browns would be a perfect trade partner to get Berry from if he slips to 7 since they seem to be very high on Colt McCoy who will likely be sitting there at 29. Unfortunately with Holmgren running the show now, it's gonna take a lot more to get up there than it did last year for Sanchez. It would probably take our 1st and 2nd this year, some potential starters like Leon/Thomas, and a 1st or 2nd rounder next year to get it done. A steep price, perhaps too steep when you think about the fact that our defensive and offensive lines aren't getting any younger.
I know I've mentioned this before, but my best friend is a Chiefs fan and he's been pissed for about two weeks because they aren't supposed to take Berry. For some reason, Pioli doesn't want to spend money on defense? He thinks they'll take a tackle, even though they are supposedly high on Branden Albert - Kirk Ferentz is very close with Scott Piolo, so Bryan Bulaga could definitely be the pick.
Pioli is a moron. Okung will likely go to the Skins....who is he going to draft ..Trent Williams , Bulaga?? over Berry...Insane.
Leon Washington and Bryan Thomas aren't starters anymore. They are role players. I agree our team would have the pay a ton to get up there to get Eric Berry...and I don't think we have the ability to do it, but he's the player that the Jets should trade up for. Eric Berry is the real deal - he's on the same level as Sean Taylor and Ed Reed. Rex Ryan started off with Ed Reed as his safety. I have a feeling that he wants another young guy back their to make plays for him. It's a pipe dream though.
Scott Pioli is a damn good GM, but after all the stuff I've seen, he'll take a tackle to protect Matt Cassell. They aren't ready to admit they made a mistake on him yet.
