this tool is one of the reasons why some people don't bother posting anymore... who the hell do you even think you are mr. e?? i've forgotten more football than you will ever know yet you act like some king kong football guru.. i personally don't give a shit for your retarded one line answers that don't even pertain to the post.. keep your wiseass comments to yourself... wahhhhhhhhhhhh, someone thinks differently than you so they must be wrong.. pass rush is our #1 priority, that is indisputable.. only an idiot thinks otherwise.. you wanna reach on a NT when we need a pass rush.. give me a break.. first of all, what we have will be fine for this season... and we dont need DL in the first round.. OLB sack specialist is considered much more important than a plug in DLineman.. if you weren't a jackass and read the whole post, you would have seen the DL being addressed in tyson alualu.. but of course, since you didn't suggest him, he must be terrible.. this is a forum.. that means people will post different opinions on people they may like.. don't try to be an internet tough guy.. it just shows how sad your life is..

That is what i was thinking.

Would love to see us take him in the second. If he even makes it that far down.

Well, my work here is done.

You've clearly forgotten a lot about football. You need to look up the Ravens' defensive stats when Ryan was running that defense. I'm not guaranteeing this, but there wasn't a single OLB with double digit sacks...his defense doesn't require a sack artist.

dude, don't listen to this guy.. he thinks he knows more than everyone else and even if that were the case, who cares.. share your opinions with a fellow jets fan.. don't be a jerk..

what you said is exactly right, his flaws of being undersized, weaker against the run would be magnified in the 4-3 scheme.. but being in space where he can take better angles and being quicker than the OL would help him tremendously.. i feel like jerry hughes will be like lamarr woodley.. 6'2 255, i think woodley is 10 lbs heavier, but they both have a low center of gravity and good bullrush.. if you read more about hughes, he played RB and if you watch his combine workout, he looks pretty fast in space and catches the ball with good technique.. he's actually an oversized LB that specializes in rushing the passer.. i'd much rather have that as an OLB in our defense, than gholston, who is a pure power DE with no technique, who is having trouble learning OLB in the 3-4...

Jerry Hughes is not a 3-4 player. Just cause Mr.E comes off abrasive doesn't mean he's wrong.

Also, you could find any information in the draft forum if you actually read it Mr.E has posted many times why he dislikes him in the 34, and why he likes him in the 43.

Hughes is said to have a limited repertoire of pass rushing moves. Sounds familiar doesn't it?

    What don't you get, man?

Do you know what SITUATIONAL means? Hughes would be subbed in during passing downs as a young player, much like Robert Mathis. He wouldn't have to play against the run...

Hughes has a terrible bull rush. He's nothing like LaMarr Woodley. That just goes to show how much you know.

You actually think I don't know who Jerry Hughes is? ...or what position he played before DE at TCU? I know basically everything about this guy as a prospect. I don't think he's going to be a bad player. I think he'd be a bad fit in the Jets' scheme.

What is annoying is reading someones page long post, and then having to see you criticize the forum they put it in, question the persons sources, and then sum it all up by saying, fuck your player.

Robert Mathis was 6'2" 235 coming into the NFL, so with Jerry Hughes weighing in 20 lbs heavier, I don't think that's a very good comparason. Not to mention, if we had Mathis on our team right now, I'm pretty sure he would be our best pass rusher.

Different systems can highlight players best attributes, and can hide others, but do you really think that if Robert Mathis (or Jerry Hughes) went to a 3-4OLB that he would all of a sudden not be able to rush the QB? If anything, he would to better at that aspect of his game because he would have a free release, and can use his speed even more.

If you don't think he can cover, that's one thing, but the same can be said about any 4-3 DE who hasn't had to do so yet.

even if that were true, let's just forget about trying to get a pass rushing specialist because its rex ryan's defense?? what are you even saying?? if we actually had someone who could pose 1 on 1 match up problems (balt had suggs, we have no one like that) it would give us so many more options when blitzing.. we wouldn't have to overload everytime like last season when no one could beat their block 1 on 1.. instead we would have to bring more than they had blocking which led us so open to get torched if we didn't get there, as you can see in the AFC championship game.. pass rusher is the 2nd most important position on the field after QB.. the fact that you are actually suggesting that we don't need one since rex didn't have one (which isn't true) is mind boggling..

You shouldn't have wasted your time reading his terrible post. Just like you, I'm allowed to post my opinion.

I don't give a god damn how much Hughes weighs...he plays a lot like Mathis. That's a compliment.

I also compared him to Jason Babin about a month ago. ...is that better?

Rex Ryan did have a pass rusher. He had Adalius Thomas, Bart Scott, Ray Lewis, and Terrell Suggs. All of those guys got after the quarterback because they fit into his scheme.

None of them had ridiculous sack totals, but all together they created organized chaos on the field.

I never said Ryan didn't need pass rushers, he just needs guys that fit into his scheme. Hughes doesn't.

I really feel sorry for you if you don't understand what I'm saying.

Now I know you saw this because you commented on it...
They were two more half sacks away from 4 guys in one year.

Still, outside of that one year he hasn't had one player reach 10. Lots of guys have come close but typically they get passed around.

to get off the who is right, who is wrong tangent.. it comes down to this.. we have to beat peyton manning to get to the superbowl.. obviously that is simplified but the colts will prob be favorites every year until he retires.. the only way we can do that is by pressuring him, which is something we couldn't do in the 2nd half of the AFC championship games.. hes smart enough to see overload blitzes.. he will just count and audible to a hot route.. we need players that can beat their guys 1 on 1.. so it's almost like he doesn't see it coming (though he will, hes peyton manning).. but since he will expect his OL to block his man, it will be less expected than an obvious overload blitz...

you see teams in the afc south draft dlineman like no other because they know thats the only way they can win against the colts.. they cant outscore the colts, instead the texans took williams and then okoye.. all the jags draft as DEs.. they need to get to manning, and so do we if we want to beat him and whoever else we play...

if you dont like hughes, thats fine.. but its so obvious that we have to improve our pass rush that to suggest another position is just ignoring our team's only weakness to becoming an elite defensive group...

    That's my point, man.

All of these clowns that want Hughes expect him to come in here and rip off 15 to 16 sacks and that doesn't happen in this defense.

Every linebacker, inside and outside, should be able to get at least 7 sacks with the corners that we have now.

The year the Ravens had that many sacks, they had a ridiculously talented secondary that Ryan used perfectly.

Side note: Trevor Pryce is a 34 end...so it's pretty amazing that he had 13 sacks.

no one expects hughes to get 15 sacks.. but we do expect people to occasionally beat their blocker and sack the qb and we dont have anyone like that... pace is decent.. but bthomas has regressed terribly in the pass rushing department since his contract year.. are you suggesting we don't try to find a replacement (jason taylor doesnt count since it would be a 1 year stop gap) and draft an NT instead when we actually get jenkins back and even played so well down the stretch without him?? obviously, his pouha, and devito did a pretty good job..

if you dont like hughes, thats fine.. but our need for another OLB to replace thomas is undeniable..

I'm suggesting that we take a player that fits into Ryan's scheme. Linval Joseph can play end and nose in the 34. He can also play tackle in the 43.

Joseph wouldn't come in here and get a lot of sack because that's not his job, but he give us a young player on the defensive line that can eat up blockers and give our OLBs more room to get after the QB.

Jerry Hughes lacks versatility and that hurts him in Ryan's scheme. An OLB like Griffen has the size and strength to put his hand in the ground and play end. A linebacker like Eric Norwood has the experience to play inside and outside linebacker in the 34.

I'd definitely like to upgrade the OLB position because Bryan Thomas clearly isn't cutting it. I think there's enough value at this position later in the draft to go after a better overall prospect in the first round.

Pace had 8 sacks in 12 games. If he played the entire season, he more than likely would've ended up with 10 or 11 sacks. I think Thomas will be shipped out if Taylor signs. So, we'll definitely have to get a young LOLB to take over when Taylor retires.

There's guys like Eric Norwood, Thaddeus Gibson, Greg Hardy, Jermaine Cunningham, Antonio Coleman - I can probably come up with ten guys that are valuable mid-round pass rushing prospects that will have an impact in our scheme.

Shit, I forgot to mention that. Yea, Ellis and Seymour getting 8 in one season looked like an amazing anomaly.

I'm new to the boards but I share your sentiments toward Hughes: I'm not a fan. What I actually don't like most about him is that considering how rush OLB's tend to have high bust rates, an OLB who doesn't play the rush well doesn't sound to appealing.

I just feel like his probability for busting is too high for a need pick.
