E & WW, you should consider starting your own (1) site; (2) combined draft blog or (3) draft podcasts. You'd get a lot of support from this site, and I could see it spreading via word of mouth and getting popular quick! Your McCourty debate/discussion was awesome!
Can't say I'd complain. I wouldn't have a problem with getting another CB pretty high. IMO we should look into one by the 4th round if the value is there. I'm not a big fan of Cam Thomas as a prospect, but he's be a great value there and worth the pick. I'd rather see them go for a pass-rushing OLB earlier too, but Davis is a good prospect. Corey Peters is a good name to throw out there for the Jets. But overall I like this mock a lot.
BK....Appreciate the comments. I considered setting up my own draft site a few years ago, maybe someday. There are so many draft sites now, most are awful. Usually, Mr E and I are on the same page. I have alot of respect for E and his knowledge. This draftforum wouldn't be the same without Mr E, GH, Jabba...and all the other regulars. A healthy debate is good and it makes others see both POVs. The drafting of players to a certain extent is partly subjective, so there will always be disagreements. I don't expect anyone to agree with my POV all the time. To be a good draftnik...you need to support your POV with knowledge and unwavering passion you're right.
I have to agree with E(Go) about the McCourty pick at 29. I also disagree with the notion that Lowery should be a 4th string CB. He's a very solid #3 for us. And frankly if we improve our passs rush, it really won't matter who the 3rd and 4th string CBs are.
That is a crazy statement. We could have rushed Manning all day and it wouldn't have mattered. Manning sliced and diced our #2, #3 & #4 CBs. Revis and Strickland were the best cover guys..when Strickland went down..it was over!! The rush, or lack of, didn't mean shit!! Cole and Coleman...piece's of shit. Lowery is a decent CB, but not in the class of Devin McCourty. Lowery has also had a history of nagging injuries. I've suggested that Lowery could be converted to FS. Weather you like it or not, the Jets will be drafting a CB in a few days.
I agree, but it's a matter of when in the next few days. Like I said, the biggest problem isn't McCourty's play, or even so much the fact he'd play in the nickel (since it's a passing league). It's the fact that signing a late 1st round CB would make it much more difficult to sign Cromartie if a cap comes back. I have a very tough time with that since Cro is so young. If McCourty is the pick, I'll be ecstatic for our defense, but I'll worry that we'll be forced to draft CB again next year.
The Giants won the Suber Bowl in a few years back with the following 3 as their top CBs: Aaron Ross Kevin Dockery Sam Madison So that's a rookie, an average CB at best and an aging vet on his way out the door. Do you think they are the reasons why the Giants were able to beat the highest scoring team in NFL history? Pressure is the great equalizer. It can make great QBs look average and average CBs look great. I wouldn't be surprised if the Jets drafted a CB early or late nor would I be upset. I know Rex can't get enough CBs. Regardless if they do or not, my statement holds true. If we can improve our pass rush, it really doesn't matter who the 3rd or 4th CB are. The less players we have to commit to create pressure the more players, we will have available to cover. Call me crazy but I'd much rather have an improved pass rush with Revis, Cromartie, Lowery and [filler] vs. the same pass rush from last year with Revis Cromartie, [Any CB in the draft] and Lowery.
Dude we play man, the giants play alot more zone. Our pressure comes from sending all the linebackers at the quarterback, the giants comes from a defensive line while their other guys drop back. Corners are 100 times more important to a defense like ours than the Giants. You put someone like Revis on the Giants and his talent would get wasted. And Ill also add that the giants had what 3 pro bowlers on their defensive line and play a completely different defense from us. You dont need great corners when all of your pressure comes from having a monster line.
One of the many reasons I think many of us love Rex and why he a far more of a genius than "Mangenius" ever was is because he is not married to any scheme. He plays the strenght of his personnel. We use 34 base personnel but run a variety of fronts and coverages out of that. Rex sends as many players as he possibly can to get pressure and sometimes that is still not enough. If he could get pressure with less, trust me he would.
