you're the one who compared the AFCC with the draft......I never brought it up. your original post stated that you didn't get why people got so excited about draft week.....and then compared it to the AFCC......which are 2 totally different events. Iggy, cmon man, you know better than to use big words in the Draft Forum. Unless they're made up big words, like "Bustability".
But it's tough to find your typical casual NFL fan at the draft. You have to be obsessive enough to wait on line for HOURS and sit through an event that is pretty damn boring to anyone else. Also, you have to wear the jersey of your favorite player, which is similar to putting on a costume. Then you argue with fans of opposing teams, much like Star Trek geeks fight about the series, movies, and books, or whatever.
Here was my original statement: Like I said, I love the draft. The ONLY thing I said was that I didn't understand how it could be the BIGGEST week. I just don't think it's bigger than the postseason by any stretch. You misinterpreted, and when I brought up the AFCC as a valid comparison, you said "Different strokes for different folks". That doesn't imply a preference for the draft for some? I'm not sure why you'd be so defensive regardless. You don't even watch college football. You're going this year, you'll see. Obsessive does not necessarily mean knowledgeable. It's a good time, but there's a reason why some of the most knowledgeable draftniks here prefer to watch it at home. The second part is fantastic, and so true. Say hi to the various regional Raider clubs that show up in regalia. I'm assuming they still do that, despite their team's putrid showing. They don't seem to realize that it's not still the 70s. :grin:
Actually, a better comparison, going to the draft is like going to a Yankee game. The event itself is inherently boring, with exciting things happening about once every half hour or so. The event will also be completely filled with people discussing what's happening, however, only about 5% will actually have any idea what's going on, and the other 95% will come off looking like complete morons. *And a great portion of it (at least the first day) are people whose connections got them seats, and will leave about halfway through.
:rofl: My mistake. For the record, I do understand taking time off this week for the draft. The only thing that sucks about the time change is that you can't possibly be expected to get anything done on Thursday or Friday. Luckily for me, the draft starts early out here.
I don't understand why some people go, but I always liked talking to people around me. If for no other reason, it's nice to educate the 95% who look like morons...whether they like it or not. Filled with memories, though. I got my first credit card at a draft. I wanted a Jets dufflebag.

I wasn't knocking the games....I just misinterpreted what you thought of the draft. Actually, I've been going every year since the Gholston pick. My sister works for Reebok and gets free tickets. I certainly don't fit into the most knowledgeable category, and you're right that there are tons of people there that have absolutely no clue whats going on half the time.

+ WW85 lives in Ohio so that means that half of the top 4 are automatically disqualified from attendance. I'm pretty sure most of the draftniks in this forum prefer to watch their Jets games at home, too.
Took off Friday since we pick so late. Getting together with a Rams, Steelers, and Giants fan having some beers eating some homemade mozzarella sticks and wings. Should be a good time but I'd still rather have just weekend draft or worse case friday night 1st round.
