  1. Same here.

I actually usually take the day before the draft off as well to watch all the previews and prep myself. This year I took Friday off and also have the following week off.

My buddy is coming over Thursday night and I'm flying solo Friday and Saturday.

I have tickets to the draft, and decided to go. Why the hell not?

My buddy and I are going to pre-game at a bar right beforehand, and get as shitfaced as possible since they don't serve alcohol at the event.

    Should be interesting.

I can't pretend to understand this being the biggest and best week (say, compared to any week that the Jets are actually playing a postseason game), but I appreciate the enthusiasm. It's just hard for me to say that the draft is bigger than the actual games.

I'm surprised at your lack of enthusiasm......the draft is entertaining, it's an excuse to get plastered, make fun of your buddies who aren't Jets fans when their teams select potential busts, and of course...eat like a pig.

The NFL Draft is the Star Wars Convention for the true football nerds.

So...everything about watching a football game except having an actual football game? Don't get me wrong, I love watching the draft but I much prefer the regular season.

I'll give you gamedays, very little can compare to that, but when it comes to looking forward to things, I can't say very much beats draft week. I know during the playoffs I'm a bundle of nerves all week up to the game, almost to the point where I can't enjoy myself until the game's over.

With the draft, everything is enjoyable. Even when the Jets aren't on the clock I'm fascinated by the process of it all, teams deciding on their future in small ten minute bursts, trading up and down, reaching for bums and finding hidden gems. It's an organized chaos that I spend 363 days a year looking forward to. There was one year when I was a kid it fell on my birthday and I wouldn't let my family go out for dinner (Jets got Santana Moss, nice 'Cane present for me).

That is honestly a perfect comparison.

    meep zorp.

it's the perfect substitute for a real game......especially in April...when the regular season is so far away. Plus, it's a game that will last 3 days....I look forward to it every year.

Lack of enthusiasm? Perhaps you should read what I wrote. I love the draft, but I don't get the "this is the best week of the year" argument. AFCC week was MUCH bigger for me because my team had a chance to win the AFC Championship and head to the Super Bowl. The excitement was bigger for me.

In my primitive mind, the stretch of time between NYJ v. SD and NYJ v. IND is roughly equal to the stretch of time between NYJ v. IND and this Thursday.

That I can definitely understand. I can see the draft being more enjoyable from a "not puking my guts out" perspective. I'm a bundle of nerves leading up to a playoff game, too, but I still think the level of excitement is higher for me.

So, you're saying the draft week is bigger for you than the AFC Championship week was? That would be the "different strokes". You say that like I don't enjoy the draft. Hell, I've flown out for it a few times, not to mention the years I actually lived in New York during draft week.

the draft festivities are a riot up here.....my best friend is a Giants fan....about 8 of us were watching the draft in his backyard the year we selected Revis.....when the Giants took A.Ross.....he kicked his shoe over his neighbor's fence in sheer rage and punched a hole in his wooden fence....I thought his wife was going to kill him.

These are the memories you take with you as the years go by.

Haha. That's almost true. The only difference is, the fans who actually attend the Star Wars Convention are MUCH more collectively knowledgeable than the fans who actually attend the draft. My favorite draft moment of all time? 1999 Draft at the theater at MSG. A Cowboys fan and a Steeler fan actually had to be thrown out for getting into a fight over...Mel Kiper. The 'boys fan had brought a Kiper guide to the draft with him and they were arguing over the Eagles 3rd round pick of all things. The Cowboys fan kept shouting "HE'S A 79! HE'S A 79! YOU FUCKING MORON, HE'S A 79! IT'S RIGHT HERE!" I don't remember who they were arguing over or what the position was, but I do remember it was so far from a need for the Eagles that year.

It was nice, though, to have the entertainment. That was the Curtis Martin year, so aside from booing Manning, there wasn't much for the Jets fans to look forward to on Day 1.
