That seems really high for Graham. Oakland picking Dez Bryant would mean that Al Davis 1. Picked the right guy and 2. admitted he was wrong with DHB. I don't see either of those things as being likely to happen. Kindle to the Patriots makes a lot of sense/me cry. Otherwise, great mock.
Like the mock. The Jets, get good value, but do you think that Odrick will fall that far? IMHO Odrick is the Jets as well as the Patriots and Ravens #1 target. If Odrick is available at 29 and the Jets don't pick him I'll be pissed.
My rationale for Dez to the Raiders is three fold. 1. Always expect the unexpected from Al Davis, for him to do what everyone thinks he won't or shouldn't ... its almost like he does it anyway just to spite those who thinks they can tell Al Davis what not to do. 2. Al Davis loves to make his colleagues look dumb and this would be a perfect opportunity to say you morons passed on arguably the best player in the draft and let him slide too me at #8, now I'll make you rue the day. 3. Al doesn't give a frogs fat @$$ less about "character issues"
I've heard that Scott Pioli likes Branden Albert as his LT, which makes sense since he was a recent first round pick and played well at the end of last season. So I think KC may opt for another position. I think Eric Berry, Dan Williams, and Rolando McClain are all very possible options. Btw I just read this yesterday and I can't attest to how truthful it is, but honestly it makes sense. I like Cleveland making a surprise pick like Brandon Graham. I think they're the kind of team that would pull a move like that, which actually makes lots of sense. The Raiders going WR in round one? No way. Not after Heyward-Bey and Louis Murphy and the money invested there. I think they'll look for an offensive tackle, defensive end, defensive tackle, linebacker, secondary or even quarterback before a WR in round one. I think Spiller goes Top 10... My guess is to Seattle the first time around. I also don't see McClain getting past Jacksonville and Denver. Could happen since ILBs historically fall, but this guy is special. I like Pouncey to Tennessee, but I think they have some young options on the team already they might go with at center. I'd be surprised if Clausen went to SF, but it makes some sense. Again, I don't see Jahvid Best being an effective compliment to Darren Sproles. Both are outside runners and speedsters... I'd be thrilled with both of the Jets choices. I think Odrick positional value makes his stock soar. IMO he won't get past New England. Interesting read and some different view points. Always good to see.
Talk to anyone who runs a 3-4 defense and all they do is rave about Brandon Graham. Even Jet fans on this site would kill to have him. Now ask yourself this question ... If the Jets were selecting in the Browns position would you mind if they drafted Graham in that spot? I know I wouldn't
If the Niners emerge from Round one with Haden and Clausen, they win the draft. Two guys that I'd have in my top 6 of prospects for this class.
I'd rather have Dan Williams in that spot. I wouldn't be pissed but I would think we left something there.
I agree, PA, but you're looking at this from a logical POV and forgetting there is nothing in Al Davis' track record to suggest he applies logic or conventional wisdom to these selection. There is however an infatuation with dynamic skill position players and a disregard for character issues. Having said that, Dez Bryant is arguably the best player in the draft if you dismiss any character concerns. In fact he was #1 in Mike Mayock's overall ranking for quite some time, so at worse he is in the TOP 3 or 4 based solely on talent. That means if he's on the board at #8, there's a good chance a TOP 3 player (if not #1) on the Raiders board will have fallen to Al Davis, so the BAP value will be immense ... and he's probably not being knocked down on Al's draft board like he is with other teams. Now I admit its very hard to get inside the mind of Al Davis. His pick is always the toughest one to project, precisely because its usually devoid of logic and reason ... but where ever Bryant ranks solely on talent, that's probably where he ranks on Al's board with no red flags damaging his draft stock. So again, there's a chance the #1 Player in the draft (on his board) could be sitting there for Al Davis at #8
Anyway, just to be clear about the Raiders, I have no idea who they will take, no one does, but I tried to think like Al Davis which is no easy task, so I removed all red flags, removed character issues (for every player) from the equation, tried to dismiss conventional wisdom, logic and reason ... then took the best and most dynamic player on the board. I've tried the other way with Al Davis, applying logic and reason, and it never works. Might as well try something else.
You know what I know I'll be sorry for this but I'm going to change the Raiders selection to Dan Williams which makes more sense. Like I said, trying to make a rational choice for the Raiders is usually a fools game, but I'll make that mistake again.
You made one major mistake: you didn't take the one player with the great combine numbers who was doomed to fail. Dez Bryant is actually going to be a good player in this league.
I would be ok with it actually. I'm definetely not a Iupati fan, at all, I really don't think he is going to be a very good pro. Call me crazy. I get a bad vibe with, Odrick. I like him as a player, and I think he has a lot of talent. I think I'm just biased against PSU? haha No, that is not really the only reason I get a bad vibe from, Odrick. I would rather have a guy who can play at 3-4NT or 3-4DE.
Jabba really nice effort. A few comments: Most selections make perfect sense. Brandon Graham skyrockets....I really love Graham, but some of his measurables (arm lenght) and he does get swallowed up by big OTs. Graham needs to play in space. Right now, Earl Thomas could be a top ten pick. I can't see Philly passing on Everson Griffen, they can get a good CB in Rd 2. If the Jets draft Joesph ahead of Odrick or Iupati...I'll be pissed off BIG TIME.
