I was a big supporter of getting "the beast" but we robbed the Steelers for Holmes. We picked up a Legit #1 WR for nothing and we still have our two top picks to plug holes. Let's hope Marshall punches his girlfriend again.:finssuck:
i think the picks are irrelevant. if the jets could have worked out a deal for marshall that wouldn't have been crippling financially he would be a no brainer over holmes. with all the guys that are coming due for new contracts it is probably best they didn't pull the trigger on marshall though.
This was a smart "non-move." The team has way too many players coming up looking for big time contracts. The contract Marshall got could have hurt this team fiscally in trying to retain those players if the cap were to return, and although I would have gladly taken a chance on Marshall, I think it would be foolish to do so at that price tag. He could self-destruct at any moment; it is tough giving out that much cash to someone like that right off the bat. Of course, it also doesn't hurt that we were still able to pick up a #1 WR for much cheaper, so losing out on Marshall doesn't bother me in the slightest. I do wish he had gone to the NFC though, but as they say, you can't always get what we want.
We filled a need without giving up much of anything rather than selling out for Marshall. That's smart GMing.
Exactly. Need to lock up the franchise players we already have before we worry about handing out huge scratch to a headcase. We're already going to have to decide which of the headcases we already have that we're going to keep.
Holmes for a 5th > Marshal for a 1 especially because now we can pick up another playmaker this year. I'm vey glad we didn't get hum.
Well said. The jets still have the picks to fill other holes. And WR was not an issue to begin with. Just stronger with Holmes.
Exactly. Holmes + whoever we pick with our 1st rounder is much better than Marshall and whoever we could have picked with a 5th rounder.
We have a very solid receiving corps now. The only problem I have with this is that Marshall ended up with the Fins.
I'm sure the Seahawks would have tried harder if they didn't already have these studs: . This is just hilarious:
This is a very intelligent discussion on Holmes and Marshall. I'm glad we have Holmes too. We get to test drive Edwards for another season and Holmes - sign one or both to a longer contract at the end of the season whereas the Dolphins put all their money in one basket without the opportunity to test drive him in their system.
The problem the Fins made was not trading for Marshall, it was giving him the biggest contract of all-time for a WR. You give that money to Larry Fitzgerald, Reggie Wayne or Andre Johnson, not someone who has had chronic off the field issues and is one suspension away from Goodell's doghouse. It's one thing to risk a draft pick like the Jets did Holmes, it's another attach yourself to such a player for 5 years and $50+ million without him every setting foot through the door.
As much as I wanted Marshall (I thought he guarenteed us a superbowl) you gotta be ecastic with the way things worked out. He commanded a first round pick and an absurd amount of money, which would of meant risk of losing key players due to budget restraint. Now we got another very good (but not AS good) reciever for next to nothing, and our divisional rivals tied up 2 early picks and a crap ton of money for him.
