I think this one is more telling:

It doesn't seem to me like there is any rush on getting an answer from Taylor any time soon. As was said earlier, either in this thread or another, having Jason Taylor might stop Tannenbaum from trading up for a prospect but it certainly wouldn't stop him from taking anyone who fell to him.

Of course they would like to know about Taylor sooner. It's a pain in the ass when any decision is getting strung out.

They don't even play the same position. We'd still need a pass rushing linebacker.

I'm with you 100% - the longer this goes on the more I think he is just winding us up. He's probably already agreed a deal with the Fish but they want to try to mess us up. Tell him to sign by Thursday or take a hike!!!

I realize that. But why in the world do you want a 36 yrold diva lb who plays 1/2 a year. I think Pace can do that role of the pass rushing LBer well enough. Just don't reach for something that will not fit. Cody also fits a need a young nose tackle/dline. You can't go wrong either way. I would much rather have a player drafted where he should be and fill a need then reach for a pass rushing LB that might fill a need but is a reach.

Why can't we have both? What does getting one have to do with the other? IMO...absolutely nothing.

as much as tanny is trying to downplay how big of a factor taylor would be on the draft i still don't buy it. if they don't get him the first round pick is going to be spent on a pass rushing specialist. i don't know if that means trade up or take the best pass rusher at 29.

if they lock up taylor the possibilities for how the first round pick is used is expand by quite a bit. they can go BPA at 29, they can trade down, they can trade up they can stick with taking the best pass rusher available. the key to the draft is flexibility because you never know how the board is actually going to look until it is happening. signing taylor gives the jets much more flexibility in the early rounds than they would have without him.

All things being equal for JT, he obviously wants to play for the Fins and the Fins obviously feel that he's past his prime because they want to see what falls to their draft pick before committing to the guy.

The only interesting piece for me here is the fact that Jets seem content to wait for Taylor to screw around before he makes his decision. I just have a feeling that Rex has an ideal spot for him to excel in this defence.

And I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but what number will be wear? The idea of this guy being allowed to wear 99 makes me want to throw up.

Exactly. That's the part that makes locking him up ideal before the draft ideal. That way if one of the great O-linemen fall to the Jets they can take them, or take the best available DL like a Linval Joseph, or Odrick if he some how falls, although that's looking unlikely.

As much as I don't like Jason Taylor, signing him just opens up the draft so much more.

I completely agree. This is mainly the reason why I would not mind bringing Taylor into the fold because it gives us that flexibility going into the draft. It just bothers me when I see some act like bringing Taylor into the mix will somehow hinder the Jets from drafting a young pass rusher or d-linemen. It is like you said...this is about flexibility. If you get Taylor, this doesn't hinder us in one bit, but he needs to decide before the draft. If he still hasn't decided by Wednesday then we need to pull the offer (if there is even one on the table).

JT doesn't want to play for the Jets because he'll never be able to show his face in Florida again. JT with Jets=Bill Buckner in Boston. Hated.:finssuck:

yeah taylor is useless to me after the draft. i have liked the move since day one because of how it would help in the draft. if he dicks around until after the draft he can go crawling back to the fins.

I am so over that ass eating douchebag. At first I was able to get overmy hatred for this scum bag, and was excited for the trade thinking it would help our team. But enough is enough.

This guy seriousely thinks he is more important than he is. Dude you are a 36 year old has been who could never contribute for a winner. You have been with loosing teams all your life, for one reason. YOU ARE A LOOSER.

He finally gets a chance to play for a team that has all the pieces in ace for a championship, and he's playing the diva card like he could be ourmissing link. Not the case. Having him would be nice, but not essentially for us. We can puck up a rookie in the draft to come in on passing situations and be just as productive.

Listen would Taylor help what at times is an pedestrian pass rush (when not blitzing)sure he could. On the other hand he's not the player are whole season rests on if he's not signed. Tanny needs to put this guy to the fire and give him a 24 hr ultimatium. He signs here within 24 hrs or the deal is pulled and let him beg Miami to take him back at the veteran minimum. In his heart I'm sure he wants no part of being a Jet.Although he has over 3 million reasons to sign here his heart may not want to come to us.
