Don't tell RobA- he's still checking Ticketmaster on a daily basis, waiting for them to announce the next John Lennon solo tour.
If there's a trade it'll probably be late in camp when the Jets know what they have at RB and some other team has just lost one of their backs or KR to injury. At the price they have Leon locked up at for next year he's no problem to keep on the roster, particularly with Greene an injury risk as the mainstay. If the Jets could actually get real value for him at the draft then they'd likely deal him and draft a back without injury problems but I doubt he has much value right now. Any team out there could have signed him for a 2nd round pick and everybody whiffed on the opportunity, that puts the highest possible compensation the Jets could get in the 3rd round and likely much lower. I'm glad he's back. He's the most dynamic 3rd down back the Jets have had since Bruce Harper and I think he'll work just fine in that role next season if the Jets are any good.
I have to say after watching LW's press conference i have a new respect for the guy.He came across as a genuine team player and has the type of attitude you want in your locker room. After all the problem children we added to this team, weather they are deserving of that label or not,it's refreashing to hear from a real "team player".
I forgot about compensatory picks, and I think most others did, too. We'd probably get a 4th-5th for him now. (If I'm understanding correctly) On the other hand, we can keep him, hope he improves, and probably get a similar compensatory pick yet also have his services for a full season.
I'm sure there will be team scouts visiting our Training Camp looking at Leon. If he shows flashes, then he may be involved in a trade before the season begins. Otherwise I'll expect him to start as our #3 and move up depending on his health.
We wouldn't get anything for him now. They're based on the contract signed and first year performance, and they're balanced out by any free agents signed. As active as we have been in FA, I doubt Leon goes unreplaced.
Yeah, of course. This is especially true for rival teams, but I'm sure there will be other scouts taking a close look at our players.
I wouldn't put it past them. All they would need is a Jets jersey and a camera. Obviously they would only have access to the same practices as fans.
Only at open practices. We don't exactly show much at those. I doubt Leon invites attraction until after the first preseason game in that case.
I don't know how much we'll see of that guy after this:
He's great in the locker room and for the longest time he embodied what it meant to be a Jet on the field. He was quick, fast, and he practically flew down the field. After letting TJ go, we need to keep LW.
So now that we're at draft day, does anyone have thoughts on whether or not Leon is packaged to either provide a pick or give us some movement in the first round, i.e. nudge up a few spots? Given the recent statements, "I can only run in a straight line," I just don't see many teams willing to accept the risk and think that we'll have Leon on the cheap for the remainder of the season, or at the very least, until the end of the preseason when other teams in need might be willing to offer picks for next year and/or players. What do you think?
I had a suspicion a few weeks ago that Leon would be part of a trade package, but now that it's pretty clear he won't be 100% before the start of the season, the chances of us getting anything of value is pretty slim. I'd rather take my chances with Leon than getting a 6th rounder.
No one wants or needs Clemens except MAYBE us as a 3rd stringer that knows the system. I've got a feeling he's going to stay right here until we're at a point where we can just let him go. The only hope he has is for a Sanchez injury and some sort of miraculous performance that makes him look good enough to use as trade bait. So far he has done nothing to give him value. If there were a Nice Guy Olympics, he'd have a gold, but that's it.
