dont worry those threads will be here eventually... the ganggreen fanbase loves to turn its back QUICKLY on players... luckily the kids here dont make the decisions. they are also very very quick to hate on anyone who doesnt do what THEY feel is best for the team and themselves... its a fun place around here these days. i hope leon does stay a jet, i hope he does do well whether he is here or not.
Exactly..and not just Jones-Drew, he wanted to be paid more than half the elite backs in the league. He wanted 6 mil a year.
it was in large to Sproles franchise tag too. Keels fucked his client over. The guy really has no idea how to be an agent. I'd rather deal with an irate Rosenhaus after I show him a tape of an intern keying his car then deal with Alvin Keels over a 7th round pick signing.
Because Jenx already came back from this injury and the Jets D kept getting better while he was out. The running game got better while Leon was out, but the douchebag agent is making it tough to want Leon here. Also, its easier to find a change of pace back who can kick return than it is to find a pro bowl NT on a 3-4 team. Its all about value.
all I have to say is THANK GOD!!!! I would of felt horrible letting this guy go... He has to be our PR and KR this year... with LT in the backfield his carries will be limited so now he can focus more on making our return teams unstoppable.
Whats wrong w/a player trying to get as much dough as he can during his limited playing career? That is what everybody is pretty much trying to do - get the best deal you can get.
I believe Leon ended up being a bigger loss than Jenks was last year. RBs are a dime a dozen, playmakers aren't. Leon isn't just a RB he is a playmaker, was the only one on the team for most of his career. Now we have a few on offense which would make it easier to lose him if we got any value back. Considering his injury we won't get nearly the value back that would make it worth losing him. If you can't seperate player and value from agent you ay as well stop watching sports. Every agent is the same, they are all duechebags that have one goal in mind and that is to get the most money possible for their client which in turn means the most money for themselves. Leon has always been a pro and I don't expect that to change this year. He will grit his teeth and come to work with his mouth shut like he has always done. The way most o you guys have turned your backs on Leon is one of the most ridiculous things I have seen on this forum in my time here and that is saying an awful lot considering the amount of ridiculousness on this board on an everyday basis.
Seriously, some of the posts in this thread are soo fuckin emotional it's ridiculous. Here's the thing that some people need to get...the people that "hate" Leon are the ones who see that there's almost no fucking chance Leon is here in 2011. Almost none. We have so many good young players we need to re-sign that a player like Leon is gonna fall thru the cracks and end up elswhere. That's just how it goes, I don't understand what's so difficult to understand about that. If we can get something of value in this ridiculously deep draft for him than we have to take it and run. He's gone next year, face fucking reality.
From Newsday yesterday. "Washington said he's right on schedule with his rehab and that he began running March 28. He's able to run in a straight line but isn't sure when he'll be able to begin some of his trademark cutbacks. He'll be reassessed next week, perhaps Monday, by team doctors, who will help plan the next step." Who is giving a 2nd or even 3rd rounder for a RB that's still limited by injury?
I just noticed something odd- Leon Washington's authentic Jerseys on the NFLshop site are half off or close to it. Here is a link to one- http://www.nflshop.com/product/inde...nt_nextBucket=0&pageCount=2&parentPage=family Maybe they know something we don't.
Who cares about 2011 right now, at this point 2011 might be played with a bunch of guys bagging groceries right now. This team is primed and ready to win the SB in an uncapped 2010 and a healthy Leon Washington helps us accomplish that more than any 4th or 5th round pick would. If he isn't healthy then no one is trading for him anyway and we can count him as another promising Jets player that has his career cut short by injuries.
No one...and that's the only value that would be worth it for us to get rid of him. And yet, I've seen people say they'd discard him for as low as a 6th. Go figure.
Everyone should care about 2011. With the number of core players heading into 2011 with expiring contracts, the opportunity to recoup a 2nd (or possibly 3rd) for a player we likely weren't going to be able to re-sign would have given us increased flexibility as we got younger at the RB position. However, like you said, if Leon is healthy he's absolutely worth more than a 4th or 5th for that one season. It's a sliding scale, and at this point we're on the "keep him" end.
i think there's some good players that might be available in the fourth that could come in and play...anything lower than a fourth is not good value
If we could get a 2nd or 3rd, which doesn't seem at all likely I would see it as too good of value to pass up and I would send Leon on his merry way. Anything less than that though and I would rather have Leon on the field helping us win a championship in 2010 even if it means losing him for nothing the following year. I want the Jets to win the SB in 2010, then I will worry about 2011 and if we lose Leon next year which is extremely likely then that is the business of the NFL .
