i think the jets should go rb early in the draft if they can grab a quality back shonn greene is great but lt is old and a risk and leon is coming off injury itd be great to have a 4th back to hedge against the risks
There's only one football. Don't forget we still have Chauncey Washington. The only way I'd be for picking a back early would be if Leon gets traded. I think it should be in no particular order a front 7 player and a safety with the first 2 picks.
Why don't you just phone Tannenbaum and let him know how you feel. I'm sure he'll get right on drafting that running back.
RB is not a NEED on this team, not nearly as much as other positions. The only way we pick a RB is late round, if there is massive BPA at 29 or 61, or if Leon gets traded.
Our 3rd RB, Shonn Greene wasn't used regularly until Leon went down. Now we have Shonn Greene, LT, and Leon in the backfield. I wouldn't mind a 3rd day pick on an RB, but I just don't see it as a huge priority. With three pro bowl caliber WRs, a catching TE, and Sanchez in his second year, Im assuming we wouldn't be the team rushing the ball the most in the NFL next year. It will be more balanced.
Agree 100%. We have other needs that need to be addressed before we can think about an RB in the first two days of the draft.
I want the Jets to draft a Safety.... Kyle Wilson if he's available.. I doubt it tho... if Jason Taylor doesnt sign with us then we should take a great pass rusher in the first or second round....
He didn't say first pick. He said early. It's a valid opinion given the way this team fell apart when Greene went down in the AFC championship game, LT's decline and Leon's injury status. Not sure why the OP needed to get jumped on like he did, apart from the fact that he posted in the wrong forum.
I think its just that RB is not even a top 5 need for us so no way do we spend one of our few remaining high picks onit.
if we can find a solid anchor at DL or a pass rushing threat at OLB in the 1st pick. im all for something in the range of Gerhart/Tate/Hardesty in the 2nd rd. Leon has been one of my favorite football players since his freshman year at FSU but he appears to be heading out. also the 3 RB's i mentioned are quality backs of a bigger mold that fits our system perfectly. LT is a 2 year rental, Leon might be gone, and Greene has a running style which leaves him prone to nagging injuries and a shorter career than most at his position. i wouldnt be mad at all if we nabbed a good RB. just obviously not in the 1st with the lack of depth on both sides of the trenches. that being said id be just as happy with a DL/OL in the 1st 2 rds. and if we can trade back, even better.
I don't get the need to jump on him/her either. I guess this is just another great example of Mr. E(Go) keeping his favorite forum safe from "uniformed" posters. Boy thank God for that. I know I feel safe knowing Mr. E(Go) is on patroll.
I say there's a 75% chance Jets draft a RB, AS THEY SHOULD. The more RB depth, the better. RB's I would like: Toby Gerhart (could be future replacement for T-Rich) Ben Tate (the dude has speed AND size)
If you'd seen the thread last night, you'd probably agree with me. He posted a thread titled: "Jets to draft running back?" in the New York Jets' forum. The thread title was misleading and it was in the wrong place. Thankfully a mod edited the thread title and moved it here.
Want to hear what the Jets think of Chauncy Washington. Similar size as Greene. Ever injured? 5'11 225. But a back like Leon would be nice in the later rounds.
That would be pretty good value. Blount would be another in the line of questionable character players added in the off season (i.e., Holmes and Cromartie). Thank goodness I think Rex is the kind of coach that can handle these guys. Will make for some good Hard Knocks story lines, I tell you that.
I like both of these prospects, but Gerhart's not a fullback. He's bigger and has similar speed to Tate. I think it's funny that they both have "speed AND size" but Tate's the only one that can play running back.
