The forum was slow, and I was bored ...

    Preface

First, I personally believe Leon is as good as gone come draft day. I know we won't get a 2nd for him, but I'm counting on a 3rd or even multiple later round picks. Of course, this would leave us with just Greene and Tomlinson in a run-heavy backfield, making it extremely likely we'll look at RB in the early rounds.

Second, Tanny has it in his blood to trade up for his guy. We all know this. He's done it before, and I think he'll do it again.

    Scenario

That said, it's Thusday night, well past 7:00pm, and the following players have somehow managed to miraculously :)rolleyes:) fall into the late teens:

    • Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee
    • Earl Thomas, S, Texas
    • Brandon Graham, DE, Michigan
    • Sergio Kindle, OLB, Texas
    • Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State
    • Jared Odrick, DT/DE, Penn State
    • Brian Price, DT, UCLA
    • Ryan Mathews, RB, Fresno State

While many Jets fans are feeling relaxed as they calmly sip their draft brew, completely at ease "knowing" we're at least a whole 10 picks away from making our selection, those of us here on TGG are watching pick by pick, bloodshot eyes glued to the Samsung, wondering if/when The Master will make his move.

And then, it happens. The Jets have traded up!

As Goodell heads to the podium, card in hand, tell me: which name would you be most desperate to hear?

It's funny, because in past drafts we've kind of had a sense of who Tanny really had targeted for a trade-up (Revis and Sanchez come to mind).

I don't really have a feel for THE guy that the Jets covet in this draft.
If it's announced that they've traded up, I'd want it to be Earl Thomas or Graham.

I think Tanny's just gotten that much better at being able play the GM game. Its better if no one knows who he wants.

Leon isn't going anywhere, not this year at least.

The only one from this list I wouldn't have a problem trading up for is Earl Thomas, assuming he gets to around 20 or so, which I think is highly unlikely at this point.

Those are the two I think he's eying. I doubt Thomas will fall far enough, so I'm counting on it being Graham.

Also, don't forget in this scenario Leon is gone! That makes Mathews' value on our board skyrocket.

Absolutely Brandon Graham, wouldn't hate Kindle either though. I like some of the other players, but I wouldn't be able to justify in my mind trading up for them.

I'm sorry WW, but if they trade more picks to get a safety not named Eric Berry, they're making a serious mistake. I'd much rather have Nate Allen and whatever pick we'd have to trade than Thomas, especially when it would almost have to involve either our 2nd this year or next. Way too much for a position that we have three solid players at already.

Can one of the DGAWs compare and contrast Berry and Thomas? I've loved Berry long time, but in recent weeks the reports I'm reading make it sound like the gap is not nearly as wide as previously thought...

I think Tanny will be trading down in this draft. He's got his starters set, now he needs depth. If he trades up he'll just be getting a more expensive player, and it seems to me our cap space is going to be quite small if the cap comes back after this year...Do as Bellicheck does and trade down for cheap role players!

You of all people should know how badly I want Brandon Graham to be a NY Jet. I believe I was the first poster on this site really giving Graham major props.

Earl Thomas is a special player and could immediately help our secondary. The addition of Bradon Marshall in the AFCE has made our Safety positon of the utmost importance. Eric Berry wasn't an option in the poll and Earl Thomas isn't too far behind Berry's talent.

Also, look at my last Jet's mock.....I traded down into Rd 2 and drafted Nate Allen. I don't have much faith in Brodney Pool.

These polls are so simplistic with no consequences of the other half of the trade.

you don't trade up and lose picks for a CB who is going to command a lot of money in his rookie year to play nickel with what the Jets just got in Comartie.

Everyone on this site is always against the idea of trading up but has anyone ever thought about the players we could have had instead of Revis or Sanchez or Harris so on and so forth.

Thomas could be that special player that takes this D to the next level and I'm not at all convinced in Pool/Smith holding down the FS position for 16 games. I'm not all for trading up in this draft but I'm not completely against it either, for Thomas that is.
