If we packaged him to move up, I'd hope it's for Thomas, Odrick, or Graham.

Go Graham, it's your birthday, go Graham, it's your birthday.

That dude would be killer on this defense.

I arbitrarily threw those names out but I would LOVE Thomas too.

I was thinking about moving way up...because Odrick will probably go off the board just shy of the Jets.

Don't see them moving way up though...just speculating again.

The Jets would probably have to move up significantly for Thomas....like in the top 15. I don't think he falls past Miami.

    Point taken.

Doubtful a CB would have an immediate impact, though a high pick CB would take Lowery's spot at #3 and probably move Lowery to S. The drafted CB wouldn't necessarily need or be expected to do too much.

However, a high pick DE/LB would certainly have an immediate impact. I doubt they would make another Ghoston error.

If Williams drops to them I think they have to take him. Which means Thomas prob falls down till at least 17 San Fran needs secondary help.

IS makes a good point about Leon's gamebreaking ablities, but our discussions here when he was still healthy pointed out he was not near an every down player, and that is part of the analysis as well. I still think the preference should be to see how he is coming back from injury, but a second round pick comes up? I think the Jets would take that. A third? Not so much.

I realize he's not been an every down player, but even with that he still manages to make a bigger impact on games than guys who are every down players. If they trade him for a second round pick they better damn well hit a home run with that pick or they've fucked this team. Not to mention the sight of Leon running back kicks for TDs and busting off long runs in another uniform.

His sacks would cure cancer. Unfortunately, they also decapitate.

Ah, I thought you were using "runner" in reference to RB skills.

I agree a bit more with what you're saying now, but while he has some great skills, I still don't believe that they're worth sacrificing for losing a chance to rebuild on the fly, and that's something that should be important because this team needs to build depth for the future.

Being a great runner is what helps Leon Washington be the success that he is, but you can always find solid KR/PR guys, and having that duality (RB/KR) isn't really all that important in the NFL. It's nice, but it doesn't create a tremendous amount of additional value.

For all the talk about him being so explosive as a receiver out of the backfield, with the ability to take it to the house anytime he touches the ball, the guy has 2 career receiving TDs in 123 career catches. Along the same lines, he's never returned a punt for a TD in his career and all but one of his 4 career KR TDs came three years ago. So while I agree that Leon has a nice skillset, I don't think he's so unique or elite that he deserves the lofty perch on which a lot of people have placed him.

More imprortantly for me, guys like Leon have a shorter PEAK in the NFL, something like 2-3 years. I think we were in the midst of that window, and the broken leg doesn't give me confidence that it will stay open. I'm not saying I expect him to fall off the table, but just that I think he's not likely to be as good as he was at his peak in 2007-2008.

He's a nice player, and potentially could be going forward, but given his contract situation (they'll lose him for nothing next year) and the fact that he's not a vital cog to this team's offense anymore (this is a big point), I'd look to get value for him now if at all possible.

Sure it does, that's an additional spot to carry a 5th QB or 3rd kicker!
