upgrade the cb position, check upgrade the wr position, check get rid of rhodes, check, i truly believe e.smith, and b.poole are suited better for rex's d. get a special teams demon, check, [laury from seattle] so i ask now what is our biggest needs? imo, it's gotta be db, we still have'nt adressed our nickel, and dime backs that peyton exposed, so at #29 is say we draft the best cb available. or we can go de, or just take the b.p.a. now we can add get a pass rusher to this list/ check so now what do we do w/the 29th pick?
I think it's (in this order): - OLB - Dline depth - Oline depth What you said about Indy, actually our #2 exposed, nevermind our 3 and 4 CBs. With Cromartie that helps, but what really burned us in that game was the time that Peyton had. I think that if we had an OLB who could get to the QB with some regularity, Peyton wouldn't have had time to let those plays develop. Dline, with the ends aging and Jenx only able to play about 60% of the downs, this is a huge need. Luckily, this is a deep draft for the D-Line from what everyone's saying. O-line depth, we've had a great run with no injuries, but with parts of it getting on in years and Faneca not being great against pass rush (and we'll be passing more this year), we need a back-up guard at least out of this draft. Hunter can fill in for Woody in a pinch over at RT, but if one of the guards goes down, we're looking at Slauson. Not that he's bad, just unproved. If Brick or Mangold go down, we're screwed anyways.
Safety, CB, DE, OLB are all some significant needs Then you got Oline depth HB, DT ,Punter all up there as well. Should be able to fill at least 5 of those needs before opening day
Pretty much this and I'll add CB to the mix. We don't need a starter or a nickel but after Revis, Cromartie and Lowery we have Coleman and Cole, neither of whom I would trust covering the #4 WR on any team. Safety needs to be there as well. I like Pool and Smith but I do not see either of them as a long term answer as starers. I think the Jets will bring in someone through the draft or maybe try and grab Darren Sharper later in the season to increase the coverage talent. I'll agree with Brick since I have absolutely zero faith in Wayne Hunter or Woody to play LT but, and I know I'll probably be flamed for this, I think Slauson could be able to hold down the center position for at least a few games. It would be a huge drop-off from Mangold but those two plays where he filled in(yea, small sample size) he seemed like he could run-block well enough. Given some more time with Callahan and the addition of Tomlinson the Jets could survive the loss in pass protection up the middle. I'm not saying it would be a great situation but I would not expect it to be a total disaster.
Lowery is a decent 3rd CB. I hope Im wrong, but Im just not sold on E Smith and Poole at safety. We need another safety we can rely on for 16+ games. An upgrade over B.Thomas would be nice. DL should be our priority in the draft though. DE to be precise. We need an NT as a backup so no hurry there. On the offensive side, we should draft a Guard no later than the second day of the draft. Woody is old and a, lets say, 3rd round RG would need some time to develop and learn behind Woody. If Leon stays, HB position is good. So in order (my preference), we need DE, pass rushing LB, Safety, Guard, NT, and an OT. Have to shore up them lines with some depth.
Based on our situation at corner, I think we can afford the risk. Who knows? Brodney Pool could be a Pro Bowler on a good team.
We need a starter or a younger rotational guy for next season. Someone like Linval Joseph or Cam Thomas could lock down the DE/NT positions for years.
OL depth!!!!!! Do you know how RARE it is for an offensive line to not have one guy go down for atleast part of the season in today's game? Somehow (praise Revis) we've avoided it the last two years, but you have to prepare for things like this. We have zero capable backups on our OL. Zero. I REALLY hope we go OG or OT in round 1 or 2, or even BOTH. As Faneca and Woody age, with relatively few holes on the team and a deep draft, what better time to grab some future starters along the OL? And you and I both know we'll be cutting Faneca sooner than later with that massive salary of his, and having to extend Brick, Mangold, Harris and Revis. Faneca and Woody are soon to be history.
I agree. I was hoping that Iupati's stock wouldn't rise too much and we could grab him at 29, but that's not going to happen. We do have Slauson, but that would be a significant downgrade. I don't think that a tackle needs to be our 1st rounder. If Woody goes down, Hunter can be our RT. If D'Brick goes down, like I said earlier, we can't replace him, so don't worry about that. But I'm with you. O-Line depth.
The sad part about this is that I'm pretty sure the exact same poster called LaRon Landry "LaRon Laundry" a few days ago. Lance Laury = not even close to laundry...
For me it's definitely 3-4 DL depth as the #1 need. We could definitely upgrade from DeVito, and with Ellis and Jenkins getting up their in age we could do well to infuse the line with some youth. Other than that, it's not much, other than a pass-rusher if we don't add Taylor. Then just depth is the team's biggest need IMO, so I think it'd do good to trade down a few times after the first two rounds.
Fellas, all this talk about OL depth. We have Turner to backup guard and center. I believe he ws the one who subbed for Mangold a few plays, not Slauson as an earlier poster mention. Now if Iupati fell, he might be too good to overlook, but really with Turner and Slauson, interior depth is not a cronic need. I have much less confidence in Hunter at tackle for any length of time but I don't see ol depth as our greatest need. I see: cb, olb, de, nt.
no it wasnt me, but lol at me for spelling laundry, [i was actually doing laundry when i posted that]
What's wrong with Revis, Cromartie, and Lowery? If a stud like Wilson falls to us and Iupati/Graham/Kindle/Odrick are all off the board, then I wouldn't mind. But we'd be adding a guy to be our #4 CB or maybe #3, so he'd be at best a nickel corner.
They almost have to go DL at this point. Ellis and Jenkins are nearing the end and I am not sure DeVito, while a great backup, is the full time answer.
