OK, what about Sapp, Griffen, Joseph, Dunlap, or McCourty? I'm not sure which part of this sentence to correct first. You want to pass up on the guy who projects best to be an outside linebacker for a guy who projects terribly to be an outside linebacker? No one ever said that Hughes cannot hit, it's just that he is better suited for a 4-3, and would get destroyed against the run. Yet, somehow you think the better idea would be to play a guy who is 10 lbs too light at best and takes terrible angles in coverage and pursuit and move him to a position that is still going to ask him to do exactly that?
Why does Taylor Mays play safety at all, surely he has the speed and size suited for LB? I mean he isn't great in coverage in the secondary but would he not be a better prospect as a linebacker?
When did the draft forum turn into a 7th grade girls' slumber party? Would you rather kiss [old, hairy-eared math teacher] or [pimply-faced class loser]?
Because this is stupid world, where only bad decisions can happen. Just pretend you're Antonio Cromartie, he's definitely got experience in that department.
Teams and people have considered that..but he has TERRIBLE tackling form. A few highlight forearm tackles does not trick me into thinking that he is a tackling and hard hitting machine.
Supposedly, a lot of 4-3 teams are looking at him to play MLB. Of course there is always this problem: He's basically a problematic prospect for any football position.
Mays is one hell of a question mark... - Can hit like a 5-ton freight train, but his form sucks.... - Can run a sub 4.3, 40 yd dash, but can't cover for shit.... Now if he has his head up his ass too, we have a clone of Vernon Gholston. Why the fuck is this guy a 1st rounder again?
Thanks for clearing that up, I've only really got into football in the last 4years so im not going to profess to understanding certain positions and what attributes the player needs to play it. I thought by his height, speed and playing as a safety through college would set him up well for the pro game.
People are stupid. Very stupid. If he goes anywhere before the 3rd than some team has made a huge fucking mistake.
I definitely agree with the OP. If Mays is on the board at 29, I expect him to be a Jet. I'm just worried they move up for him. Do I want Taylor Mays? No, not really. I wouldn't freak out and go crazy like most of this board would, but I wouldn't be on board with it. That said, if Rex thinks he can make Mays a player, I trust Rex.
That's pretty much exactly how I feel about it. I think with the Jets being in a win now mentality, I can't see the scouting team, Rex, and Tanny all completely blowing our first round pick. If they pick him they must be confident they can make him an asset on the defense this year.
