I Just can't see us taking a corner with this pick, maybe if Kyle Wilson slides, but certainly not if he doesn't But we're on the same page, I also think the pick in this scenario would be Joseph or Griffen Unless Earl Thomas slides to 29 (highly unlikely), I feel pretty sure the pick will be a front seven player (DL or OLB)
I need info on Griffen's intellect. In the interviews I found he comes off a little slow. I'm not looking for articulate or scholarly, but there's something there that troubles me.
According to Gil Brandt's analysis, it's a slight reach, but I put the slot guy from ND on the other side of the ball for Sanchez. I don't think the Holmes acquisition gets in the way of this....At some point we'll be between keeping him or Braylon Edwards, and acquiring a young receiver to go with the QB,RB,TE makes sense, since the offensive side of the ball was the lacking side during the season....
Except they already solved that problem when they traded for Holmes. I know Rex said that he wants to let Sanchez pass more but there is no way that the offense sees a sudden explosion of 4 WR sets in Sanchez's sophomore season. If we pick Golden Tate in the first round of this year, we would be paying him a first round contract to come in maybe 5 times a game while the Jets let Edwards and Holmes battle it out for a contract and a starting spot in 2011(if there is one) so Tate can take over as the #3 WR. Right now, Clowney/Smith is a decent option as a #4 WR. The Jets can easily defer the choice for next year's draft where there will still be plenty of options at WR.
Judging from the Cromartie pickup and shipping off of Rhodes (who may have possbily blown more coverages than tackles last season), something tells me Rex covets talent/depth in the secondary more than anything else in his defense. I went with McCourty mostly because I considered him BPA, but also because of the leagues shift towards pass happy, spread 'em out style offenses. I'm not saying I couldn't see the FO going DL, but if the question is, who would I pick given the available players, taking Rex's style into account, I go with McCourty. "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
None of those guys are good slot guys. Tate is like Stuckey on roids...(or if you prefer Welker) You want a guy that can create matchup fits inside/underneath to complement Keller. We've already bolstered last years number one defense, fairly significantly.(Especially if Taylor signs). Clowney hasn't shown himself to be a consistent option, for anything..and Smith while serviceable, is not going to be a dominant player off the LoS. PS..If as good as advertised, you'd be locking up Tate at around 15 mil over 5. (Nicks got 12.5 at 29 last year) Thats AMAZING VALUE for a skill position player.
Name the#4 WR on any team that has had a major impact. We have our top 3 which is all this offense needs this season.
Sorry man, Tate just isn't going to happen. Trading for Holmes was a already a head-scratcher, considering our style of offense. The value is what validated the trade logic there. There's no logic in picking up Tate, even if Edwards or Holmes are gone in 2011. It's overkill, and we have more pressing needs.
It's not that much of a head scratcher. We traded a lot for Edwards so having Holmes here pushes him to become what the FO was hoping he could become for the Jets. If Edwards doesn't work out then the Jets can resign Holmes. If Edwards does work out but Holmes is better, then the Jets can tag Edwards and try and trade him for a draft pick or two, or vice versa. After Edwards and Cotchery there was very little on the team as far as WR talent. Smith is a phenomenal athlete but he's a terrible WR. And then there is Mr. August who likes to show up on occasion, only to disappear just as quickly. We were screwed if either Cotchery or Edwards went down. Now we have a viable back up. Lastly, he was really fucking cheap and added a great underneath option for Sanchez that can also draw attention away from Keller.
If Edwards has another average season, we're not going to tag him. Apart from '07, he's done next to nothing in terms of production; the talent's there, but one great season in six isn't worth a 1st to any team. I only say Holmes was a confusing pickup due to our run-heavy offense. It's not a bad trade by any means, it just wasn't exactly necessary, IMO. We needed WR depth, but three starting-caliber WRs on a team that doesn't plan to run 3-WR sets seems odd to me. Still, a great move.
The Golden Tate talk is insane. The Jets spent..a 3rd round pick and (2)5 Round picks on Edwards and Holmes. I could see the Jets spending a very late 6 or 7 rounder on a WR, but more than likely bring in a couple of undrafted FA WRs after the draft.
Hence the reason I said that the Jets tag him if he works out to be the player the Jets wanted him to be when they traded for him. Although I probably could have been clearer about that. I'm probably alone on this but I would still take Freddie Barnes if he is BPA in the 4th.
Do you mean Morgan Burnett is your favorite safety value wise or would you really prefer him over Eric Berry and Earl Thomas for the same price?
i just made trading up an option, they are trading up and grabbing eric berry, dont argue and deal with reality that this is going to happen
I want Griffen or McCourty if available, hopefully after we trade down. For some reason I wouldn't mind Taylor Mays in some hybrid LB/DB position laying the hit stick.
