Assuming Holmes signs to play elsewhere in 2011-12 as a FA, would the Jets be entitled to a compensatory pick?

    Depends on the new CBA.

Anyways Holmes for a 5th is a great deal...

    1) We now have a very good WR core for 2010

    2) It gives us the option to not over-pay either him or Edwards because if we loose one we still have the other

    3) If he/Edwards sign somewhere else we should be able to get a compensatory pick

Thanks and I agree it is a great deal. The thought that we might get the pick back as compensation for him signing elsewhere is comforting to say the least.

Not only that, but had Holmes been cut there was no way the Jets would have been able to sign him because of the Final-8 rule.

I can't believe I was so worried about the stupid Final-8 rule when they announced it. I completely underestimated the sheer power that is Tannenbaum.

Actually, the Jets can sign any cut players they want. The Steelers not cutting him probably cost Santonio a lot of $$$. But, it's great for us since he comes at a low cost for one year.

No that's not true at all. The final 8 rule applied to unrestricted free agents, not players who were released. Holmes would be in the same boat as Tomlinson was. A veteran released by his team.. anybody including the final 8 could sign him.

    "cost me a ring"

    that's why I love Rex.

This a Yankees thing to do. Holmes was a Ravens killer, so he gets traded to the DC that he used to kill and now plays for his offense.
