Exactly. Although Mangold is the best C in football, Ferguson is still an above average LT. A slight downgrade at Center is less damaging than a downgrade at LT.

Of course I want to keep them both.

I think we just let the 2010 season play out and the stats will tell us who stays and who goes.

    Free Agents by Year
    2011
    Mangold
    Harris
    Cromartie
    Leon
    Braylon
    Holmes

    2012
    Brick

    2013
    Revis

We cannot restructure any of these any players contracts until a new CBA is signed. All of the 2011 free agents will be unknowns until the CBA is settled.

We have no idea what the CBA will be, so it's nearly impossible to try and figure out what the Jets will do.

Without a salary cap the Jets could resign all of them, with a salary cap we will definitely lose some of the 2011 free agents.

As usual, there are 20 sarcastic replies you will have to weed through.

Obviously Revis, Mangold, Brick and Harris are #1 priorities, and hopefully lifelong Jets. I really think Cromartie will have a great season, and will be resigned. As for Brayon and Holmes- I think one of the two will probably end up screwing up, or not playing up to their potential on the field. After reading Santonio's "time to wake and Bake" twitter post from March, I wouldn't be surprised to see him fail another drug test.

When you trade away pics for big time players, you get good value, but you have to pay for it. However, the best value comes when you make a good scouting evaluation in the middle rounds of the draft and have a guy playing well for 3-4 years under his cheap rookie contract. We haven't had enough of that in recent years. We did pretty well a few seasons back getting guys like Cotch, Eric Coleman, Rhodes and even Adrian Jones to play pretty good ball on the cheap.

We're on the right track with Devito and possibly Westerman, but lets hope we can find some more talent in the later rounds that can give us a cheap boost.

I think I agree with this, especially because I think Mangold might come a little cheaper than Brick. Mangold is the guy on offense I really don't wanna lose, and Revis is the guy on D we can't lose.

I'm a little afraid of losing Harris just because of where he probably is on our priority list, but sadly he plays a position that shouldn't be too difficult to fill.

That is the Core of our Young team outside of Sanchez. Lock up as much as you can. Cromartie could also be up there depending on if he rebounds on last seasons play. If there is a cap in 2011 there is little chance of keeping all these guys. One of the receivers will most likely be gone and probly another player off the list unless we draft a replacement for Faneca and can cut his salary.

Yeah, hopefully we're not going Florida Marlins: stock up for a championship, then let everyone go and start again.

I'd be OK with letting Leon and Braylon go out of that list, possibly Cromartie if we can get one in the draft.

You also have to consider that the Jets will probably let Faneca go next summer, so it's important to get depth at Guard if Matt Slauson isn't the answer.

That should save us $7.5 million or something like that.

I hope that Slauson is a potential answer to replace Faneca.

The Jets have to make sure that the offensive line doesn't fall apart with the age of Faneca and Woody and potential injuries.

See we don't truly know what Slauson brings to the table, under the watchof Callahan he could be a pretty good lineman

Also we haven't factored in the fact that Ghost may be a bust AGAIN this year, and this would be it for him, he'll get cut and we could use that money to resign another player of our choice

The reason I bring this topic to you guys is because I don't want this team to be a 1 hit wonder and everyone moves on, I actually like the players on this team and I would like to see a majority of them here for their respective primes, for once I actually think we could do some damage and not just win 1 superbowl but to win the big one and still stay in contention for a good part of this decade and more. We got the coach the QB the GM, an owner that likes this team, I hope everyone is able to stick around

Totally agree. Had forgotten the potential savings of a Gholston cut, although that could result in cap penalties etc.

    Definitely want a dynasty here.

Man I am getting ahead of myself here. LOL>

I think Tannenbaums goal is to have a team that is competitive every year. You can't make one big run in the NFL because Injuries are the great equalizer. Being competitive every year and having a chance to make a run at a superbowl has to be the goal year to year.

Keep in mind that Slauson's college coach was Bill Callahan so while I don't think any jets fan has any idea if he can play in the NFL, Callahan must have a good idea if he can or can't.

I don't think we get any salary cap relief from cutting Gholston. If the cap does come back next year and they cut him, it would still leave a big penalty for the following season.

Well correct me if i'm wrong, but Sutton was always an offensive line guru, for this guy to teach Slausen the ropes of being an offensive lineman will go a long way

Callahan was his coach at Nebraska. Sorry for the confusion.

I suspect that the players will hold out for two things on the new agreement, More guarenteed money and/or either No Cap or a much higher Cap.

In my view what will probably have to happen to get the owners and players to agree is that draft salary caps will occur, a higher percentage of a players total contract will have to be guarenteed money, and the cap will stay in place but be a much higher cap.

    Just my view.
