the draft forum is great but it's dominated by a smaller group of people. i was looking to get some different opinions. but your right this probably could have gone there instead.

I think the Jets will focus on the trenches.
I expect them to look DL and OL in the first two rounds.
With the new draft format, I wouldn't be suprised if the Jets low first rounder doesn't garner some attention.
As it is one of the last picks before the end of that day, I can see a team looking at #29 and wanting to make a deal to pick up a player they like.

Additionally, I truly expect that Leon Washington's days as a Jet are over.
The Jets are not going to pay Leon any money at this point.
Not with 3 viable WR options and Keller at TE AND with LT in the fold.
I expect a Leon trade anytime between now and draft day.
I would expect a #3 and possibly a bottom rd pick in 2010 or 2011.

To have all our needs filled in the off season would allow us to look at our aging offensive and defensive lines and add the depth we have been crying about for awhile.
Holmes fills the void on ST we would have if LW left so in all actuality we sured up 2 postions with a 5th round pick! Unbelievable!!!!
Call me crazy but i'm thinking maybe we move up to draft a pass rushing beast?!
Then we could go depth the rest of the way.

Pass rusher is a pretty obvious need, so much so that I don't think there is really much controversy about it.

After that, though, I would go for depth on the OL.

Defense plain and simple. This team needs a pass rusher.

if taylor gets signed that isn't a need anymore. it is still something they should look into drafting this year but it won't make or break the draft if they don't get one. i think a pass rusher would be a top priority but it would no longer be a first round priority. as the roster stands right now pass rusher would be the number one need though.

Too me it should be either a pass rusher or a saftey as our top needs, then I would say depth for both lines. A WR is a possibility given that we have two FA after next year.

I think it still is a need at DE Taylor is old and we need to develop a DE either as an elite pass rusher or to replace Ellis or taylor

So you'd rather lock up some unproven talent then to sign proven receivers next year that are used to our system and Mark.

We'll have payroll coming off next year too, and if these guys want to win we might finally be the team that players will sign at a discount for.

yes it is a need just not something that they NEED to draft at any particular time. i have little doubt they will draft someone to rush the passer but it might be a guy later in the draft who can develop for a year or two and then step into the role when taylor is gone.

With the 29th pick in the 2010 NFL draft, the New York Jets select: Tim Tebow, Quarterback, Florida University.

No, I was more saying I would not be suprised if they also took a WR because they will be thinking to develop a WR in case one the WR's leave.

I think Tanny and Rex are building this team like the world is gonna end in late February.

Makes sense but Holmes just turned 26, Braylon just turned 27, Cotchery will be 28 in June.

So out top 3 WR's are still in their prime and will be for years to come. We could draft a WR in next year.

If things work out the way Rex, Tanny, and Schotty want I'm sure they'll sign all of the above. Who knows we could win the entire thing this year and I'll be happy with that. lol

  19. Although typically the draft usually has a ton of gray area...and is extremely difficult to predict....w/ the Holmes move and impending Taylor signing I see this going 1 of 2 ways only...

    1. Rex is notorious for falling in love w/ 1 or 2 players in a given draft class and when you combine that w/ the "Tanny Factor" as well as the elite level of our roster...I could see taking the majority of our chips to move up for that one specific player. Could be a guy like Earl Thomas,Eric Berry, and Jared Odrick....maybe even a third RB!

    2. Ya know that "Depth draft" so many of us have been begging for over the last 2-3 years? Perhaps we count on one of the QB's slipping to #29 and we trade down into the upper second round...or we just stay put at #29 and go BPA. Either way, this could be the draft where we draft line heavy and BPA heavy. This team is in its elite position b/c of its extremely talented OL and its physical front 7....perhaps we harness the strength and improve depth for the short and long term.

I don't really see the draft strategy going any other way at this point. Either we move up for one specific guy to put us over the top...or we go for depth, w/ a concentration on both lines.
