That's not true. There's a good reason why they're awarded after the season is over. The production of the departing and returning player are a big factor along with the contract number.
I'm watching Jets Nation right now on FSN (12:21 a.m.) and after they came back from a commercial break, they flashed a "Breeaking News" graphic across the screen. I figured it was to officially announce them signing Taylor from Miami. Instead, this FSY female sports anchor says "according to NFL sources" the Jets got Santonio Holmes from Piitsburgh for a 5-round draft pick. John Clayton (ESPN) also made this same claim.
now we just need to sign Jason Taylor and then Sharper after July 22 and we will be set this frees us up in the draft to go BPA at every round

This gives Clowney a reason to prove himself. He knows hes got 4 games to prove that hes not completely useless. If it works out who knows, you could suddenly see the Jets transform their offense like the Chargers did.
