I know we've just gotten used to the fact that Santonio Holmes is coming to the Jets, but my feeling is that this just opens up the possibility for another move. We didn't want Marshall because that would create a crowded wide receiver field, especially for a run-first team, but now we've added Santonio Holmes, who caught 80 passes a year ago. Consider that Dustin Keller is still a catching-first tight end, and you've got a tough situation if Rex and Schotty want to stick to the ground-and-pound: someone's going to be unhappy. Is it beyond the realm of possibility to think that we're trying to swing Braylon for maybe a 2nd round pick or a 3rd round pick and players (safety, OL/DL depth)? I have trouble believing that we're going to go into next season with Cotch as our #3. Maybe it's just me, but I think Tannenbaum has something else up his sleeve. Can you think of any other team that has, well, ever had this much talent at WR? Santonio's been a Super Bowl MVP, Edwards has been an All-Pro, and Cotch is fucking awesome.
No, they can't afford to trade Edwards because of Holmes's suspension and the fact Clowney sucks. I think they will just have 3 legit receivers this year, and then going into 2011 either Edwards or Holmes will be gone.
I'm pretty sure the thinking here is Holmes fills the need for that slot reciever everyone says the Jets sorely need. Holmes and Edwards can survive on the same field together.Edwards and Marshall, i don't think so.
keep braylon. what would we do without holmes for the first 4 games if we didn't have braylon? cotch by himself?
No way this is our super bowl run we are going all in. There is no way in hell fi the cap returns we can resign ALL these players. MAKE OR BREAK BABY!!! ITS SUPER BOWL TIME!!!
No way, Santonio doesn't offer much stability at all, he's a free agent after this season and I don't think we'll be able to afford him assuming he has a good year.
There's no chance we risk it with Holmes. We're likely going to see a shitload of 3 receiver sets, and Cotchery will be WR2 in possession situations. It's not going to be a simple 1/2 of Edwards/Holmes. The flexibility at the position now is astounding.
We'll NEVER, EVER be a pass first team with Rex Ryan as head coach. We'll have a killer passing game, but we'll always be a run first team.
So since we made our team better through a trade, we should bring the talent level back down through another trade? Thread fail.
This. Whoever performs better will be offered a contract. If Braylon doesn't learn how to catch a football consistently, he's history. I like to think Cotchery will still be used thoroughly. He's the perfect possession WR.
agreed. Plus remember how much the run game improved upon Braylon's arrival. He may drop some balls, but he can block as good as any WR in the league. I still can't believe this really went down.
I'm hoping both these guys bust their asses trying to steal PT from each other that they both play up to their abilities, stay out of trouble and lead us to a SB victory
Assuming this trio goes well think it sounds plausible that we sign the 3 to long term deals ? I mean having 3 #1 capable receivers is a ton of money.
