Every year while listening to the draft analysts it seems like every player drafted in the first 3 rounds will have, for sure, some kind of success in the NFL... unfortunately though, as we all know with Gholston, that is far from true. What players will bust in this year draft? I have some names: Jason Pierre-Paul -> I think he will be the next Gholston of OLB's (only takent later). Not a very smart guy from what I read, not very dedicated, only one year of DI football in which by no means did he break the world (like Gholston at least did) and most of all no football instincts whatsoever. If height-weight-speed (however prototypical they are) were the only things that count the Raiders would be in the playoffs year in year out. If you watch this kid not only does he not PLAY like a football player.. he doesn't even MOVE like a proper football player should! He'll bust bad IMO... Taylor Mays -> Unlike JPP I think he will have a decent NFL career... but no way as good as a first rounder should have. He'll have a role as a hard-hitting/blitzing S somewhere in the league and I hope it's not with us. E. Smith is basically his slower version... Brandon LaFell -> Bust ala Limas Sweed... Jacoby Ford -> Ah.. if speed was the only thing that mattered... please feel free to add possibly with some analysis on why
Good thread. After all we talk about the draft it's always good to throw your predictions out there so in a few years we can see how wrong we were... - Jimmy Clausen QB Notre Dame --- Call it a hunch or whatever you want, but I just have a feeling he won't live up to the hype. Not sure if he'll be a Ryan Leaf-bust, but I think he'll disappoint. - Brandon LaFell WR LSU - Arrelious Benn WR Illinois - Bruce Campbell OT Maryland - Jason Pierre-Paul DE USF - Everson Griffen DE USC - Taylor Mays S USC
Wow, what's with the Brandon LaFell hate? I don't think he's a superstar or anything, but I think he's going to be one heck of a solid NFL wide receiver. He's been a rock since he got to LSU, and he'll continue to be one in the NFL. Smart, dedicated, hard working, good at everything on the field even though he may not be great at anything. In fact, of ALL the receivers in the top three rounds, he might be the safest pick. My gut says he'll go to a playoff team looking for an immediate #2 and be very productive. Could be a real steal for a team like the Bears in the 3rd too as a potential #1.
TCU's Jerry Hughes in a 3-4 defense. FSU's Patrick "Toast" Robinson in any defense. Oklahoma's Trent Williams at left tackle. Oklahoma's Sam Bradford - no more Big 12 defenses, kid. Maryland's Bruce Campbell...ultimate workout warrior.
I'm not going to label him a bust, because he won't go high. LaFell is a tough, hard-working kid, but he drops a ton of passes. He catches the ball with his body a lot of the time. I hate that.
That doesn't worry me as much as it should because LSU simply doesn't develop their players. I don't know what their problem is because they recruit just as much talent as anyone in the country, but their players come out barely any better than when they got there. I see LaFell with a lot of potential still because of that, even being a 5 year guy.
Sam Bradford, OKLA- Injuries will kill his career Jason Pierre-Paul, USF- Not enough experience, workout warrior Jared Odrick, PSU- He is a very nice player and if he were to be taken after 25 then it would be a solid, safe pick. However, I have a feeling that he will be severly over drafted ala Tyson Jackson. He could go as high as Cleveland, though I believe he will be taken by Denver, and in those spots he will never create the impact that a top 15 pick should have.
