Those teams picking in the upper third of the 2nd round are going to have wait from Thursday night to Friday night to make their 2nd round pick. I have a feeling some of the gm's with those picks are going to get very anxious towards the end of round 1. I'm hoping that a teams fear of a player not falling to them on Friday will have them offering up more then they usually would to get one of the last picks on Thursday. I know a lot of people have proposed that the Jets trade down to the late 30's and get more picks. Do you think the much longer then usual break between rounds 1 and 2 will cause more trade ups on Thursday night?
If that were the case....I would say that could happen. Rounds 2-3 however, begin Friday at 6PM...so it's only 24 hours. espn.go.com/nfl/draft (sorry can't post a URL yet) I see many a deals taking place in that break though based on who is left on the board at that time, but don't know how much it will influence jumping into Round 1. Having a late Round 1 could actually hurt us knowing that people could spend all night to negotiate into Rd 2 Pick #1 throughout the night if their target is still there.
I think its not an impossibility. I did it with Detroit in my mock earlier today. Detroit saw the last of the elite tackle prospects sliding, and moved up to 29 to grab Anthony Davis. It's only about 6 picks, and none of the 5 teams in front really need a tackle, but plenty of teams could be looking to move up to grab him, and Detroit got antsy and pulled the trigger, and didn't have to give up that much (a 4th) to secure their man. I think it will happen and we will see one team with an itchy trigger finger come the end of round 1, that moves up to make sure nobody trades ahead of them and takes their guy.
