I know there will be more than one trade in the first round of 2010, but I am only going to predict one, which just so happens to involve the Jets

Details of the trade

Detroit Lions trade picks #34 (second rounder) and #100 (4th rounder) to the Jets for #29.
Technically the Jets owe the Lions 10 points on the trade chart, but I decided that the Lions just want to let it slide so they can get their guy.

Round 1

1. St. Louis – QB Sam Bradford, Oklahoma
I still think that the Rams would be better off with Clausen, but Bradford appears to be the guy they want, so they finally get their future face to the franchise.

2. Detroit – DT Ndamukong Suh, Nebraska
Detroit has to love that the best player in the draft is staring them in the face at #2. They need somebody to help protect Bradford, but there will be quality OL prospects in round 2, you don’t pass on a once in a lifetime prospect like Suh unless it is for someone special which Okung is not considered to be.

3. Tampa Bay – DT Gerald Mccoy, Oklahoma
Exceptional player at possibly the Bucs most needed position results in a perfect marriage.

4. Washington – OT Russ Okung, Oklahoma State
Washington has their QB of the ‘now’ and in order to win right out of the gate, they need to rebuild the OL, and why not start with the best OT in the draft?

5. Kansas City – S Eric Berry, Tennessee
I consider Berry to be the second best player in the draft, and to get him at 5 is a great luck for the Chiefs. Hopefully having Berry drop into their laps works out better than Glenn Dorsey has so far

6. Seattle – OT Brian Bulaga, Iowa
They need to rebuild that OL if their offense is going to see any type of success next season.

7. Cleveland – QB Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame
Holmgren has been deflecting and denying questions about QB’s for a long time now. But he knows he needs to find his QB of the future, he has a holdover in Delhomme, and has his backup of choice already in place with Seneca Wallace, now he just needs the future to complete the trio.

8. Oakland – DE Jason Pierre-Paul, USF
If last year didn’t prove that Al Davis cared only about 40 times and physical freaks, then he will just solidify it this year with his selection of the biggest boom-bust player in the draft based purely on the potential thanks to freakish combine numbers.

9. Buffalo – OT Bruce Campbell, Maryland
The Bills need a QB, unfortunately the Browns took the last viable guy worth taking this high. So the next thing on the Bills list of needs is to rebuild that atrocious OL.

10. Jacksonville – S Earl Thomas, Texas
Penciled this one in as a lock when he ran the 4.37 40 time at his pro day. Couple that with the fact he is actually a good safety and a ball hawk at the that.

11. Denver – DE Jared Odrick, Penn State
His stock is flying up the boards, and we may see Odrick as this year’s Tyson Jackson, I don’t think he will breach the top 5, but he could crack the top 10. Couple that with the Broncos need for 3-4 players, and they can’t pass on a prototypical 3-4 end.

12. Miami – DT Dan Williams, Tennessee
Jason Ferguson is almost Brett Favre’s age, and he certainly is nothing more than a capable guy in a rotation at this stage, oh add in the fact he has been suspended for the first 8 games of 2010, and you can see why the Fish need a new NT in town.

13. San Francisco – CB Joe Haden, Florida
This guy is drawing comparisons to Darrelle Revis, and that is no joking matter. If this guy is ½ our lord and savior, he is well worth a top 10 pick in this draft, for the Niners to grab him here is great for them.

14. Seattle – RB C.J. Spiller, Clemson
The Seahawks need playmakers, and they are thinking about taking Spiller at 6, so to get him with their second first rounder makes sense to me.

15. New York Giants – ILB Rolando Mcclain, Alabama
The G-men are desperate for a leader on defense, and Mcclain fits the bill, especially since he just so happens to be the best linebacker in the class when the Giants need one, badly

16. Tennessee – DE Derrick Morgan, Georgia Tech
The titans need to replace Vanden bosch, Morgan is the most likely candidate to be that replacement

17. San Francisco - OT Trent Williams, Oklahoma
San Fran gets the top corner in the class at 13, and follows it up by strengthening their OL, Williams has the potential to be a top OT. I don’t think there is an elite tackle ala Joe Thomas from this class, but I think group all has the potential to be above average-great NFL players.

18. Pittsburgh – OG Mike Iupati – Idaho
Classic lineman selection for the Steelers, they need to revamp the OL so they can get back to classic Steeler smash mouth football

19. Atlanta – Brandon Graham, Michigan
Atlanta needs a pass rusher, Graham is the best one left on the board.

20. Houston – RB Ryan Matthews, Fresno State
Marriage made in heaven, they need a RB to pair with a sophomore slumping Slaton, and Matthews might be the best back in the draft for a RB by Committee.

21. Cincinnati – TE Jermaine Gresham, Oklahoma
They still need weapons on offense, and Gresham is the best tight end in the draft, there were rumors that if he stayed healthy in 2009 he might have been able to secure a top 10 selection.

22. New England – WR Dez Bryant, Oklahoma State
New England over-reacts to the loss of Welker, and the Jets addition of Antonio Cromartie and selects a WR instead of improving the weak point of the team, the defense

23. Green Bay – CB Kyle Wilson, Boise State
Rodgers spent last year on his back, they need to bring in some youth along the OL, but they decide to pass on the Rutgers product Anthony Davis due to character concerns, instead they opt to upgrade the pass defense with the #2 corner in the draft, Kyle Wilson

24. Philadelphia – OL Maurkice Pouncey, Florida
Philly is breaking in a young QB, and with the recent decline of one Andrews, and the loss of the other one will cause them to need to bring in an interior OL. Pouncey also happens to be very versatile with the ability to playboth guard and center.

25. Baltimore – WR Demaryius Thomas, Georgia Tech
I think he will end up being the best receiver of the class, and despite the acquisition of Boldin, in order for Flacco to take the next step, he needs a young guy who he can grow with, and Thomas is that guy.

26. Arizona – DE/OLB Sergio Kindle, Texas
Zona needs a lot of help on both sides of the ball. They lost Dansby, Warner, Rolle and they got Rhodes, Porter and Jay Feeley. They have lost a lot and they gained almost nothing in comparison. Kindle is a good start to revamping the pass rush in Zona.

27. Dallas – OT Charles Brown, USC
They finally bid adieu to that cheating SOB of a tackle, and now they need to replace him with a new tackle, hopefully this guy isn’t anywhere near as dirty as the guy he is replacing

28. San Diego – DT Terrence ‘MT’ Cody, Alabama
Jamaal Williams is over the hill, he is coming off season ending surgery, they need a NT of the future and lucky for them the #2 NT in the draft is still sitting here at 28.

*Trade*

29. Detroit – OT Anthony Davis, Rutgers
Detroit needs to protect Matt Stafford, and in order to do that they need to secure one of the draft’s top tackles. So when they see Davis sliding a little bit, they make the move up to secure the last of the ‘elite’ tackle prospects. Davis might have the most potential at the OT position in this draft, but he has character concerns a plenty that will likely force a slide since there are so many top tackles this season. I hope for Stafford’s sake his character concerns turn out to be part of the past.

30. Minnesota – S Taylor Mays, USC
They need secondary help, and while he isn’t exactly my first choice, Somebody will take a chance on Mays, he is such a physical freak I wouldn’t even be surprised to see him drafted by the Raiders at #8.

31. Indianapolis – DT Brian Price UCLA
The runner up could use some help along the DL, and I have a feeling Price is going to be a monster at the next level

32. New Orleans – S Nate Allen, USF
The saints don’t need a lot, but a replacement for Sharper, is something they will most definitely need.

Jets mock is up next!

Jets Mock Draft

2nd round (34): Linval Joseph DT, East Carolina

Most of you know by now I love this kid and really hope he ends up in Green and White very soon. He has all the potential in the world to develop into a real good NT for us. He isn’t just that Terrance Cody type who is just too big to move, he is also stronger than hell and has a first step that’s as fast as lightning. Many of our “scouts” from the draft forum believe he could develop into a baby Jenkins. Who better to become Big Jenks eventual replacement? For anyone who thinks this is a little high, check Gil Brandt’s top 100, he has Joseph right in this area.

2nd round (61): Alex Carrington DE, Arkansas State

He is high motor, high character guy. He also happens to be 6’5’’ 285 with the frame to add some weight and plenty of strength. Carrington is about as close to looking like a 3-4 end as college players can look. He also has a knack for stopping the run, and can occasionally get involved in the pass rush, although as a 3-4 end that won’t likely be asked of him very often. Sounds like the perfect guy to develop into a starting DE.

4th round (100): Anthony Dixon RB, Mississippi State

He has the potential to be a great player for us, he has the speed and the power to be another good-great back for us. He can run through people, he can jump over them, he can pretty much do whatever he wants to or needs to in order to get the first down or touchdown. He is the all-time leader in touchdowns and rushing yards at Mississippi State, his only real weakness that I can find is that he didn’t have more than 10-15 receptions a season, and since I don’t know Mississippi State’s offense, I can’t tell you if that’s a scheme thing, or if he just isn’t a great receiver out of the backfield.

4th round (124): Kyle Calloway OT, Iowa

Calloway is likely to become our RT of the future, but he does provide solid OL depth as he has played multiple positions along the line during his tenure at Iowa. He is one of the more technically sound lineman in the draft, so if nothing else that means this guy is coachable, and with a year to learn behind our stellar OL and OL Coach I think he will be ready to step in and replace Woody full time in 2011.

5th round (155): Freddie Barnes WR, Bowling Green

Everybody knows by now how I have been behind this guy, he is the prototypical slot receiver, he has the quickness required and the elite level hands, but he is by no means a burner. He is a fantastic route runner, which leads to the separation you see in the highlights below. He is more or less the second coming of sure handed Chansi Stuckey, and can step in from day 1 and be the slot receiver that we need. He owns nearly every receiving record in BG history, and this kid has the ability to be perfect for what we need.

6th round (198): Adrian Tracy DE/OLB, William and Mary

He is my sleeper at the OLB position. He has the size, he has the speed and athletic ability, he was a good pass rusher with his hand on the ground in college, and I think he has the determination to make the transition at the next level. He may not produce a lot the first season, but I think he can be a situational pass rusher, and he will certainly pick things up faster than that idiot Gholston has.

7th round (236): Jeff Byers OL, USC

Byers was a highly touted guy coming out of high school, but injuries have certainly slowed him up. He is an interior line player, and if he can stay healthy has a chance to develop into a very good depth lineman.

----------------------------------------

Well what does everybody think? I realize not all the youtube videos are useful, particularly the ones of Adrian Tracy and Alex Carrington, but they were the best I could find. hope you enjoy the mocks even if we don't see eye to eye

I defer to all of the people on this board who know more about college than I, but I love this mock draft. I'm a big fan of trading down and I think you've done a good job of adding depth, especially on the lines.

Linval Joseph looks like a mean man. It's kind of funny, that first hit where he crumbles the QB. I don't know if he got called for roughing the passer there or not, but in the NFL, where they protect QBs from being hit whenever they can, they would have called that for sure.

Really like this draft, although I would go after a WR earlier and am still shaky on Carrington.

Not sure of the exact number, but I believe he was in the high 4.6's.

I see no reason to draft a WR earlier because Barnes fits what we need perfectly.

Also in regards to Carrington, I think Alualu will be a better 3-4 end, but not only won't he be around at #61, but i think Carrington fits what Rex's scheme better than Alualu.

That's a hell of a draft, rule.

Nice work.

I think a lot of teams are going to pass on Anthony Dixon because he had so many carries at Mississippi State, but that won't matter here. In a RBBC, Dixon will be the perfect power back.

I'm not sure Jeff Byers will last that long. He's versatile and he's played in a pro-style scheme.

Yeah the 7th round was hard to figure out, I knew I wanted to get another guy along the OL, and when I stumbled across Byers, he just reminded me of Chansi Stuckey where he was a pretty good player, but injuries really slowed him down, and caused him to slide to the 7th. In my eyes, the 6th -7th rounds are pretty dead even in terms of talent and anybody could go from the top of the 6th to the bottom of the 7th.

Those are the guys I like to draft late. Guys who were derailed by injuries, or have character issues that if the can get fixed have a chance to develop into something of value.

Rule, awesome job. For the most part this is a realistic draft and I for one would sign up for this right now if I could.

Great draft and I love the fact that you have included video on each player you picked. I wish it could go like this and that we would trade down... we need more picks. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Linval Joseph isn't a 3-4 NT, but a 3-4 DE according to most scouts and draft-sites I've read. But even if we got a pair of 3-4 DEs in round two, that would be fine by me seeing how we'd be set for a while. Ellis is entering his 11th season and the other side is a moderate mystery. Although I don't see Carrington lasting to the end of the 2nd round, it could certainly happen. I just see 3-4 DEs like him being a hot commodity.

Not a big fan of Anthony Dixon there. He's more of a power back, which we have in Shonn Greene. And assuming Leon doesn't get dealt, I don't see the need to take a RB before the late rounds.

I love the rest of our draft. Calloway is a guy who I could see sneaking as high as the 2nd round. I think Jeff Byers will be long gone, but other than that it seems realistic and very good.

Only thing is I'd rather see a pass-rusher added earlier and I'm not a big fan of a RB like Dixon in the 4th, but I'd be very happy if this is how the draft went down come April.

IMO the only way Bruce Campbell goes that high is Al Davis...

The rest of the draft looks pretty ordinary, but solid

Good work overall

At his size and with his strength you know where he can play on the D-line, PA, and don't let anyone tell you different ...

ANYWHERE HE WANTS

Thanks!

Yeah I really wanted to get a video of each of the guys I was selecting because for those who don't follow the draft as much, or for those who follow this forum and learn about the players that way but have never really seen any film on the guys, it helps them to understand why I want to pick those guys.

I will start at the top and work my way down, most notably using Gil Brandt as my main source.

Joseph is up to 330 pounds, and has the frame to put on a few more without losing any of his strength or athleticism. This guy as Jabba denoted will be able to play all over the line in a 3-4, and can certainly develop into a NT of the future. All though it has been noted before that for his first year or so, he will likely see most of his time at end while he is developed behind Jenkins.

Carrington may or may not be there at the end of round 2, can't debate you on that. But I feel that he is the most likely to be there, and if he is you can't pass him up.

Well we are transitioning into a RBBC for the very forseeable future. At the very least to have a good tandem you need 1 power back and 1 speed/scat back. For the now, we have Greene who just so happens to be a combo of the two but is more of a power guy. We have LT who is the speed guy, and Leon who is the Scat back. Other than possibly not having Leon, the biggest worry is that we are injury prone at all aspects. Leon you could chalk up to being a freak injury thing, but you have to believe Greene is the most likely to get hurt of the 3, and we need to bring in another bruising back who can not only lessen Greene's workload to keep him healthy come the postseason, but it's a heck of a lot easier to wear down a defense when you have guys trying to run you over everytime they make contact.

This guy has plenty of highlights on Youtube, if you haven't seen much of him please go take a look, he has a crazy 70 yard run where he runs over several guys and drags 3 guys into the endzone, he also has a run in which jumps over another defender to get a first down. The guy is athletic and he isn't afraid to run people over. He is the back i think we need, he may not be the type of back you want, but don't say he isn't worth the spot, because he is.

Tracy is my sleeper at the position, and I figured since I have faith he will develop into something of value, there is no reason to give up value at another position in the 4th when I trust my scouting department completely.

I talked about Byers earlier, he might be the one stretch I have, but if he is there I don't think you can pass him up.

Not to disagree on Campbell, but Brandt has him as a top 10 player in this draft, and what brandt says pretty much goes. He called Jackson going in the top 3 last year, the man is a guru. I trust his opinion on this stuff.

Heck yes Jabba, Joseph can play whereever he wants! What was that term you used to describe him in the gil bradnt thread? a Planet Player? sounds right to me.

Well Jabba I hope its an accurate prediction of the future then, because that champipple sounds like it will be quite the treat!

I would love this draft. Although I would really like to draft a safety sometime during the draft, this draft helps us immediately this year with the DL help and also sets up some massive depth on both lines.

One of my biggest worries last year was the depth and talent on the DL. We need some talent and youth on the DL and this does it in a big way.

Agreed 100%. Joseph will start out as a 34 End, but once he gets into an NFL weight program he will develop into a nose tackle about the time that Jenkins is ready to either move on or declining in impact.
