We should have researched further. It's all there in the F8P, but buried at the bottom. Poorly worded, but I seriously doubt it got by Tanny.
I agree with Jets Nation. Although the most likely candidate seems to be Brunell if Taylor signs(God, no).
agreed that I would love to see Sharper playing in NY next season if we aren't able to draft a safety of the future. hell even if we do i think it would be a good call especially with Pool's concussion history
There is a restriction on that - the player has to not have been tendered an offer by June 1 of at least 110% of their 2009 salary by their previous team. That would be $1.87 million for Sharper.
Can the Saints tender Sharper? I don't think so due to his experience, unless they can drop a late franchise tag on him.
I think you're right. A franchise tag would be about $6.5 million, and I don't know if the Saints want to spend that much on him.
Only the June 1st tender. I posted it in the F8P section, but it applies to all UFAs. It makes no stipulations based on how long a player has been in the league, and it specifically mentions that it refers to UFAs.
Basically, the Saints can offer a June 1st tender to Sharper. As statjeff said, it's about $1.8 million. That signals to teams that they have until July 22nd to sign him. If he's not signed by July 22nd, he then becomes exclusive property of the Saints. Only they can sign him for that season, or he sits the season out. They're likely to submit that tender, and we're likely to get screwed out of the Sharper sweeps. The only way we get to sign a UFA is if his team doesn't want him back at 110% of his previous year salary. That leaves us with players like TO after July 22nd who were overpaid last season but still got to play out their contracts.
If we land Sharper, I'd start cursing the fact that we don't play the Giants this year. He's good for at least 2 picks against Eli every time they play each other which would be great for our defense's numbers.
Yes it would. Unfortunately, bringing Taylor in may kill our chances of getting him. There's no way the Saints pass up the chance to bring him back for under $2 million.
He came in and left. I'm willing to bet that Taylor is just shopping the offer at this point. In all likelihood, the Jets will probably bring in Brunell with exemption(or however you want to put it) we're getting for Feely.
Would Sharper sign for under 2 million ? I heard he wanted to get some solid cash. 2 years ago he was making like 4 and a half million. Then last year everyone thought he was washed up so he made crap. Last year he proved hes still got it,so I dont think itd be insane for him to command over 3 mill. I heard somewhere Sharper is looking for 4 million plus (what he made 2 years ago), but I dont have anything to back that up.
