We're going to draft one anyway, either this draft or next year's draft. The point is that we're in WIN NOW mode, so if a player can help us even a little bit we're one step closer to a Super Bowl.
gotta get a thicker skin on this issue. it's not like jets fans always treated taylor with respect and he just shit all over us. we have all given him just as much as he has given us. he was the defensive leader of a division rival so it was his job to hate the jets and even us the fans. he liked to talk a little trash but it's not like he is out running jets fans over with his car.
So your saying you'd rather the team lose then sign Taylor. No offense but I trust Rex's judgement over yours or anybody else's on this board. I'd say his credentials speak for themselves. If he wants Taylor I stand behind it. The guy knows what it takes to have a great D and Taylor fits what he wants.
I agree with you 100%, Rich....Rex has earned the trust of the fanbase, IMO....Rex knows what's good for the team, especially the defense....Taylor's skillset certainly fills a need. But....i still don't have to like it........Jason Taylor doesn't belong on this roster in any way shape or form. I'll never be convinced otherwise.
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Free agent linebacker Jason Taylor is meeting with the New York Jets for a second day as coach Rex Ryan tries to persuade the NFL's active sacks leader to join the top-ranked defense. The six-time Pro Bowl pick is at the team's facility Thursday and has met a number of Jets players, who say Taylor would be a welcome addition. Taylor has spent 12 of his 13 seasons with the Miami Dolphins, including last year when he had seven sacks. The 35-year-old Taylor would provide the Jets with a proven pass rusher. Taylor has had a contentious relationship with Jets fans during his career, calling them ignorant and classless. Linebacker Calvin Pace believes the fans will put that aside if Taylor
No rich your wrong I want the team to improve but taylor is not an improvement, if you guys think he is then how come no one has answered why has parcells not offrered him a contract they need him more then us
I intern for a radio show and the host asked me point blank how quickly it would take me to cheer if Jason Taylor records his first sack in green and white. I said never. NEVER. He's a yankee fan so I was able to relate it to the way we felt when Clemens hopped on board. It's a little different because of the amount of money involved but if anything I'll see Taylor like Clemens-a total merc piece of shit with no loyalty to anyone but themselves. Now do you want to say that's pretty much 90 percent of all athletes? Fine. But I've seen guys sacrifice for those green and white colors; Martin, Chrebet, Victor Green, Mo Lewis, even Penny. I want no part of this fucking punk ass little Xerxes look-a-like bitch.
believe me I want that guy too. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a demarcus ware in this draft, and even if a guy like kindle or Graham can become that guy, they likely won't be very close to us at all.
Talent-wise....Taylor is an improvement over what we currently have at that position. What Parcells' views as a need at the OLB position for the Dolphins is probably different than what Rex wants out of the OLB position. If Rex thinks there's value with Taylor....then who are we to say otherwise? I hate Jason Taylor........but his skillset would certainly help our defense.
Redmond Charles Burns stabbed Taylor on a freeway a few years back in a road rage altercation. There use to be a thread on TGG with this pic and a Jet insignia on his head. im pretty sure this was the guy. lol nm
I think people are going way over the top about this. People want their cake and eat it too when it comes to building an elite roster. Sometimes to bring in somebody who is going to put a team over the top you have to sacrifice some intangibles like prior fan relations, off the field credibility and long term substance. Unfortunately 25 year old, healthy pro bowl talent, w/o health or credibility issues don't grow on trees. And unfortunately you need to subplant your young core w/ some role playing veterans to provide leadership and winning experience. We don't have to like Taylor personally. We can stay bitter about the past from a fan relations/ dolphin rivalry perspective. But objectively speaking does he help the team in some capacity? Absolutely. Is bringing him here gonna break the bank or send the team into a catastrophic state? NO! The only thing negative people can find in this move is some silly quotes about the fans made through the media and the team he played for prior to these rumors. Sometimes Emotions and business don't mix. If rex feels taylor can come in and fill a role...what reason do we have to not trust him on that? He was right about Scott,Leonhard, Pouha filling in for Jenkins, trading up for Sanchez, and how competitive we would be in the playoffs last year! Not adding someone else who rex has a strong feeling about over something intangible and not substantiated to me is downright foolish.
I think that's the issue for Taylor and the Dolphins. Parcells was mostly using Taylor as a run stopper when that isn't what he excels at. The Dolphins don't blitz like the Jets do, so having a pass rushing specialist at LB doesn't really suit that defense. Taylor fits a more specialized role that the Jets desperately need to fill.
Parcells has nothing to do with what role Taylor plays in that defense. Tony Sparano is in charge of that scheme.
this is all fine and dandy, Kurt.....but Taylor isn't exactly thrilled to be courted by the Jets in the first place...his agent basically had to force him to fly up for the visit. I'm not disagreeing that he would fill our pass rush needs.......but do you really want a guy on the roster who deep down wants nothing to do with this team?
If the Jets are still trying to sell PSL's why would they sign a guy that the fan base hates so much it doesn't make sense. I'd rather the team have a open audition for an OLB then him on the roster.
