Shit I wouldn't even mind Riley Cooper from UF if we can get him in rd 4-5 to play our slot. Tall, quick receiver with good hands and good route running. Maybe not the most athletic guy but I would think a good option right? We would have to draft Golden Tate too high for what we would need him to do. You just don't take slot receivers that high it's not good planning. Rather have Benn or Thomas and groom them to take over for BE and put Jerricho in the slot for the season and start running move 3-4 wr sets with Keller lined up as well.
If Dez Bryant is available then it's a no brainer. He's far and away more talented than anyone else you listed. I went with Tate because he's the most reasonable.
gilyard, easley, shipley, or cooper would be great pick ups in one of the later rounds.. mike williams was an absolute beast before he left syracuse midway through the year, he could be a big time steal.
Food for thought. Our disinterest in giving up a 1st for Marshall kind of makes it seem less likely that we're willing to spend it on a rookie. Doesn't it?
Inconsistent, no? Man, oh man, I REALLY hope someone falls in love with Claussen/McCoy and we can trade down...
the more i read and research, the more i find it unlikely there is anyone of value on the board for us at 29, and as a result we either have to trade up (inadvisable) or down (my preference) but staying put in round one is going to result in us taking a player we shouldnt (taylor mays? yuck) or reaching for a guy we could easily get 10-15 picks later (cam thomas?)
I've asked the question before...who is the DE you have in mind drafting at #29? Odrick will be gone!! BPA availablawould be fine...it's not going to be a DE. I'm not picking on you Rock....I just want posters to think shit out before they make a general comment. When you say you want a DE at #29...please tell us the name of the player. After Odrick and taking Dunlap out of the equation, there is absolutely no DE (NOT OLB) worth the pick at #29.
I don't believe anything that comes from Tanny. Last Year: Pre draft Presser: "I'm really happy with our 2 QBs.."Kellen and Ratliff have earned the right to compete for the starting job" "We will be picking at "17". If Tanny likes Odrick, Thomas or Graham...don't be surprised he moves up. One thing I can tell you as a Jet Fan..........you need to watch the entire draft, don't assume we will be picking at #29. Last year a lot of Jet Fans missed the Shonn Greene pick on Sunday morning. Conventional wisdom tells all of us ...trading out of round 1 would be the best option, don't assume Tanny is on the same page. In recent memory, I can only recall one time Tanny trading down. Round 2 (2006) with the Redskins to pick up an additional 2nd rounder and then he traded back up a few minutes later (with Dallas) to draft Kellen Clemens ahead of the Vikings. That trade was very important, it gave the Jets ammo (2- 2 RD picks) next year to move up to get Revis and Harris
What's wrong with Tate? He's versatile, he's fast, he has strong hands, and he also blocks. The kids certainly a gamer, and he's been playing in a pro system for 3 years. Tate could fit in immediately at the slot, and eventually be groomed into a starter. Also, if we lose Leon, he gives us another good KR/PR.
He has to look up "route running" on wikipedia after every workout...? Roberts or Shipley could help us more as prototypical slots...
LaMarr Houston Everson Griffen Both are probably reaches, maybe 10-15 picks too high, but I wouldn't be surprised to see either taken here if the FO liked them enough and preferred need over value. In many other drafts these guys would be considered late first rounders. But as you said, I fully expect Tanny to trade up for his guy, or down for additional picks.
Good routes is not one of Tate's strenghts. Tate has all the smarts and ability (Pro-System) to adjust well to the NFL. Tate is a baller....he's a tough son of bitch that goes after the ball, has the strongest hands of any receiver I've seen in some time and blocks his ass off. I really like Tate, if we draft him I'm Ok with it, but would rather look in another direction....trade down....or Kindle, Pouncey or McCourty.
Try again...Griffen and Houston aren't going to play DE in the Jet's defense. Good players, but not 3-4 DEs.
