Tanny could easily convince Al Davis that Kellen is the next Kurt Warner and get their pick. Kellen might actually be able to win that Job.
Is Vernon Gholston going to wake up or what? Maybe he is sing "Sorry seems to be the hardest word" to all the jets fans? what Have I got to do to make you love me...
My bad I didn't specify... The 2007 class has only gotten just three seasons so far... It's not too late for some of them to fulfill expectations and its not too late for some of them to fade out.. And it's still WAY too early to judge the 08' and 09' classes. Not just the Jets picks, but in general.
DAMN YOU GHOLSTON!!! If we had taken Jerod Mayo instead of Gholston we'd probably be looking at an A+ right now. Regardless, I'm still happy with how we've been drafting lately... it's impossible to be perfect.
The only criticism (other than Ghoulston) about the last few drafts is the quality over quantity issue, specifically trading up in the draft, with at least one result being less players are coming to the team out of the draft, albeit the ones picked, such as Revis, Harris and Sanchez, have more quality (ostensibly). I am not saying Tanny did the wrong thing, but there is a trade off.
Agreed. having role players and developmental guys are really important. Thankfully there have been some UDFAs that have come along to make up for it, but at the same time they could be on the jets as well as that extra 3rd or 4th rounder.
He'll never be bigger than Leaf. Leaf was a higher pick, had higher expectations, played the most important position, was heavily compared to Manning going into the draft, and was much more high-profile due to his temper. If anything, Ghost's ability to be practically invisible on this team possibly saves him from being even the second biggest bust of all time. However, I can't think of anyone else for no. 2, ATM...
to be fair, Russel is making a claim to be the biggest bust of all-time, and it's a pretty impressive claim... Gholston will be one of the worst busts in Draft History, but he won't be top 10 because he is invisible. If he showed up and was garbage and had a pac-man jones sized rap sheet then maybe, but gholston is just an athlete not a football player. But he also will never be forgotton, we already have heard it the last few years, don't want to pick the next Gholston and fall in love with the athletic ability, and forget the guy can't play football...
The Patriots butt kissing continues! Juries still out on Terence Wheatley? Really? He only made the roster last year because of his draft status and he never played. Home run on Darius Butler and Edelmen yet jury is still out on Shonn Greene? Please. With all the extra draft picks that this team has accumulated over the last five years we are very lucky Belechick has lost his touch. They get too cute often times. Last year they could have stuck where they were and drafted Clay Matthews but BB HAS to trade down so everyone calls him a genious and they draft Brace who didn't play a lick. Lets not forget Ben Watson, Chad Jackson, Laurence Maroney either. Look at their roster, its all free agents and guys they drafted 5+years ago. BB is still living off of Brady (luck), Seymour (sure thing) and Wilfork (fell in their lap at #21).
Unfortunately, I think Gholston will be mentioned with these guys. He was the 6th pick in the draft and he can't even get on the field. Leaf at least started 30+ games, Russell too. Heck, Heyward-Bey even caught a TD last year.
The only thing I can guess at is that the Jets' scouting department devotes a large amount of scouting research to a smaller cross section of prospects and have decided that this is a smart approach - give extra picks up for the guys that you know, without a doubt, will be impact players. Rather than spend 7 draft picks and maybe hit on 3 starters. This approach hasn't helped us out much as far as depth goes, but at his point I can't argue with any of the trade-ups with the exception of Kellen Clemens.
