Neil Rackers was not cut. His contract ran out which is why we can't pay more than 1.5 mil (Feely) for him.
Sorry, misread my source. I am not having a good weekend with this. If we throw the money we get from Jay Feely at another kicker then I am not going to be too happy about it.
I was in Indianapolis watching Feely miss two crucial field goals a few months back. Both were momentum killers and I left the game thinking he was the reason Jets didn't make the Superbowl. The one after the half would have put you up 20-13. If you were there and could sense the momentum in the stadium ... (its always much different live than on TV) ... the Colts were almost completely out of that game, they were reeling ... (the crowd was stunned and nearing full blown panic mode) ... until Feely misses that 3rd quarter field goal ... crowd gets a little bit of a lift after that and then Manning answers downfield and it was game over. Jets played a good game. Feely had a horrible game. No surprise to me that he's gone now ... that's how it works in the NFL.
It wasn't different on TV though - I knew that miss killed our team and gave Manning and the Colts momentum. It was a risky decision by the staff, but Feely still had plenty of distance on it...he just pushed it. There's no excuse for missing a kick indoors.
How much did Wallace Wright sign for. I don't think the Jets are going to offer any more than that to any kicker.
How was the first one a momentum killer? it was the first series and we eventually took a 17-6 lead. The 2nd one was from 52 yards, it was silly to go for it. he had one bad miss that game but it was on the first series, Rackers missed a chip shot w/ a chance to win their WC game.
Rackers to the Texans Adam_Schefter Filed to ESPN: Former Cardinals kicker Neil Rackers reached agreement Monday night with the Houston Texans on a two-year contract.
Great. I don't feel so safe with this Folk guy. That's exactly what we need. Imagine this Jets in the Superbowl 30yard field goal to ice the game, and become champs. Clemens bobbles the snap*WAIT WHAT THE F is this* the Jets lose Superbowl 45. (sorry for being a darksider)
Interesting...they just gave Kris Brown an extension during the season. He got $2.5 million per season. That's quite the battle they've got. Houston is a good place for Rackers. I still maintain New York would have been tough for him, and he may not have been an upgrade over Feely, distance aside.
I'm glad Rackers didn't sign. I also expect a very good college prospect or two to be brought in after the draft. Ask the Chiefs how Mr. Irrelevant is working out for them. Ryan Succop, who was one last pick away from being another free agent, there are guys with that kind of talent available for peanuts as UDFAs. It beats overpaying for two retreads.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5058753 There is the link... no opinion yet, except the fact that Folk really sucks
Neil Rackers is a Houston Texan http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/05/neil-rackers-is-a-houston-texan/ Well, that f***in' sucks.
We couldnt of signed Rackers for the money he wanted anyway. Rackers shot down 2 million, we wouldnt pay Feely more than 1.2 Plus we can surely get some depth somewhere in the UFA since Feely left us , no poinit in wasting that on another kicker.
We need to bring a proven kicker into camp. Nick Folk is an inconsistent choke artist and arguably worse than Nugent. Letting Feely walk makes no sense to me, since management apparently had no plan. Unless we draft a kicker who can light it up from Day 1. As good as our defense is, and with our offense not exactly leading the league in TD's scored, we can't afford to have a sub-par kicking game. Winning the close games could be the difference between an 8-8 record and 11-5 or a similar swing in W-L record (see the Raiders the year before they drafted Janikowski). When the Pats' let Vinatieri go, at least they had Gostkowski waiting in the wings.
