Awesome game, but I really wish these teams could start playing 3 hour games like everyone else.

Any Sox fans here think the Opening Night gimmicks were just weird? That Neil Diamond thing in the 8th inning was a fucking disgrace. The man was clearly singing it hammered and I assume everyone else who got that excited about him must have been too. Pedro throwing out the 1st pitch was kind of cool, but that kid giving the Herb Brooks speech was just retarded.

Victor Martinez better start stepping it up, 1-5 is not expectable.

    Couple things:

Fuck Brett Gardner. His little stealing home bit was completely overshadowed by his throwing like a complete asshole "home." What a ridiculously bad play. Damon would have thrown that ball to Jeter or ARod. I despise Brett Gardner. Fuck him.

Fuck Nick Swisher. His outfield antics continue. How badly can a human being misplay a ball? Holy shit Nick, did anyone in Little League ever teach you to get in front of the ball?!? Shitheaded assclown.

Fuck Chan Ho Park. We moved Gaudin for this piece of shit? It's like Kei Igawa did make the damn team. (And that's got nothing to do with nationality, simply talent, or lack thereof.)

Nick Johnson looked awesome fouling a ball off his foot. Over/under for his first DL stint? I put it at April 9.

These are the people who make me view Cashman like Don does. Ugh.

Anyway, it was only one game, and I'm not actually upset about the result. The only thing I'm really irritated about last night is what time MLB decided the game should start. Does anyone not on the east coast really give a damn about these Yankees/Red Sox epics? Hell, even I'm getting tired of them. They can't possibly play a normal length game. Why start it at 8PM? Start it at 4PM, then people can watch while they enjoy dinner or whatever. A game expected to last 4 hours shouldn't end at midnight.

Brett Gardner's throw was inexcusable, but he's still a pretty decent fielder. Also, you're forgetting one huge upside about him this season so far: the guy can finally hit!

About the game starting at 8pm, since it was the MLB opener I don't mind that they wanted it on prime time.

He can finally hit like a #9 hitter? Yippie! And I don't consider a lot of bunt singles to be "learning how to hit." He's fast, which by nature makes him a "better" outfielder than someone who can't run. But that throw was not only poor (which we can always expect from Gardner, either a soft throw, or one completely off-target) it was also stupid, as though his head wasn't in the game. Was he throwing home or to third? Either way he completely missed his target, by a lot.

I realize it was the season opener, but damn it, everyone who knows anything about the Yankees/Sox (and MLB and ESPN do) knows that game is going to take until Monday to finish.

Nick Johnson is difficult to look at. His fat ugly head doesn't match his body.

He looks like a fish and toad mutation.

the ball went directly over arod's head (as in the throw was going to third). It was just an awful throw and way to high

Yeah. That's pretty much what I said. I agreed with the YES team that he appeared to be trying to throw to third, so that makes it an even worse throw than if he were just trying to outgun his own arm by throwing home.

Me putting out the assumption that he was trying to throw home at all was simply my giving nature allowing for him to have simply been suffering stupidity, rather than a complete lack of any skill.

Anyway, Gardner's dumb play doesn't compare to Nick Swisher's. That misplay lost the game. Well, that and our suddenly inept pen.

    Suddenly?

When has Chan Ho Park showed anything other than what he did last night?
Poor addition to the pen IMO.

Joba was just throwing...we all know unless its a save or hold situation Joba doesn't have "the fire'

I wouldn't be surprised if the Yanx trade w/ Tampa for Crawford bc Gardner sucks cock.

I wasn't speaking about Park specifically. I was speaking about our overall pen. We had pretty good relief pitching last year.

I wouldn't mind trading for Crawford, but I also don't know if I'd be really happy about it. We'd probably get fleeced. The Rays aren't the Eagles. As much as Gardner pains me, we're stuck with him. He's our "best" option until we have the chance to get Crawford via FA this winter. All we can hope for is that he doesn't continue to study at the Nick Swisher Baseball School for the Mentally "Gifted."

Nice to see you're in mid-season form already.

I knew you'd call out Gardner on that throw (and blow it completely out of proportion).

The most important part of your post was where you said it's "only one game." Which makes your reactions kind of ridiculous.

I would almost guarantee that Park will be a decent (not great) addition to the pen. Certainly better than what you saw last night. (Although, his location was off, but really, he gave up what would have been a medium depth fly ball in any other park.)

    Oh, stop.

All I'm saying is the guy was two for four (with 1 R and 1 RBI) from the bottom of the lineup and you want to crucify him for a horrendous throw because you've already made up your mind that he sucks at everything. That's pretty funny.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'll take that kind of production from Gardner all year long. Melky who?

I thought so too, but they mentioned why on the Yankees' telecast last night. They do it so that if Opening Day gets rained out, they have the day to make it up. Kind of makes sense, though I don't know why it makes more sense than having that off-day at the end of the opening series, that way if one of the others gets rained out, you have a back up day.

I'd rather have had Damon in left. Period. Screw Melky. You didn't see me whine about Granderson this morning, did you?
