the only explanation i can come up with for why who our kicker is gonna be getting so much attention is that this is the first time in like 8 years we don't have to spend all offseason talking about who the starting qb is gonna be. take a look at the numbers everybody feely was and is an average kicker in the NFL. he was an instant upgrade over what we had seen in the years before he came here but he is very replaceable. the person worrying about the change in kickers affecting the locker room AYFKM? do you think the guys who are out on the field actually playing football give a shit who the kickers on the team are? i'm sure feely was a nice guy and had plenty of friends on the team but they all understand how this stuff works, especially for kickers who get cut faster than anybody else for poor performance. basically i think you guys are vastly overrating what feely did for us. he was a solid kicker who got paid to be a solid kicker. other solid kickers exist and this could be the second one the jets sign this offseason.
I agree.. Feely was good, but nothing special. Rackers has been better over his career, and we could really use the boost on the kickoffs. Teams starting 5-7 yards back every drive will really help our #1 defense.
Folk hit 83, 90 and 64% his 3 years in the league and the 64% was coming back from an injury. Rackers was 57, 60 and 83% in Cincy. So he played there and he sucked in bad weather. Folk has never missed an extra point in his career. Where are you coming up with this stuff?
Maybe someone could look it up (I'm on my phone), but wasn't Folk's best game AT Buffalo, too? EDIT: just checked. 4/4 including a 53 yarder to win in Buffalo. Great game and Folk bailed out the Cowboys.
I haven't, but a very good friend of mine actually did meet Neil Rackers in person. He told me some stories of how much of a dick he really was.
I hope we bring in Rackers. At this point, any competition for Folk is good. Maybe Rackers is the key that unlocks all that Folk potential that sends us straight to the Super Bowl.
I'm not gonna go that far either. I'm not gonna sit here and root for a player to have a shitty season just to be right. I wish and expect nothing but success for ALL our players. I hope you do too.
If we brought in Rackers, hopefully it would just be to give Folk some adversity. I wouldn't trust Rackers to make clutch kicks when the game is on the line and Folk had a great start to his career before he was ragged on by Jerry Jones. Folk has a lot more potential.
Folk has worked on his mechanics, the change of location and the mentality of the Jets locker room should help with his mental state which was probably about 50% of his problem last year to go along with the injury. I still think they need to bring in some competition but I don't think Rackers will sign. The Jets FO has already said they only have $1.2 allocated for the position this year and while I realize they could move up a bit from there I don't see them going to $2 mil which is an offer Rackers agent didn't even respond to from Zona.
With the restrictions on FA hindering the Jets, I don't think you use free agent money to bring in kicker competition. I'd pass on Rackers and go with Folk and use the Feeley money to sign a position player.
Rackers was cut so the FA restrictions do not apply to him. We could still bring in someone for Feely's money.
