If his agent were doing his job, he wouldn't be the most problematic agent in football, Leon would be under long term contract, and Andre Smith would have been in camp on time last year for EXACTLY the same money he eventually signed for. Keels is a terrible agent.
Again, you really should walk away. You're better than this... Leon is pencilled in as a low carry 3rd RB. He's not going to be the central piece even if he is healthy.
i have no problem with Leon being on this team (you're obviously having a hard time understanding that).....and i would support him if he continued to be on the roster next season. BUT If some other team is going to offer us a high draft pick (2nd round) for Leon.....knowing FULL WELL he's coming off a major injury AND he's probably going to walk next year as a UFA anyway...who the fuck would turn down compensation in that situation?! it's not rocket science, junc.....that's why i'm surprised you haven't picked up on the logic yet. You're too busy worried about losing a player to a divisional rival...and not willing to see the whole picture. The Jets proved that Leon wasn't vital to the offense after he went down....and Leon screwed himself because he didn't sign the offer made to him last fall. If Leon was bent on playing for the Jets....don't you think he would've signed his tender by now? All that tells me is that he doesn't want to be here if there's a better offer out there.....which means.....he's PROBABLY GOING TO WALK IF HE BECOMES AN UFA NEXT OFFSEASON. He's trying to fill his pockets with as much cash as he can....and i don't blame him. I just don't expect the Jets to pony up again....and offer him a big contract. So tell me again....how this discussion is over my head, junc.
Leon is not penciled in as anything, we have no idea how the carries will be dsitributed despite what rex said. How do we know Greene doesn't get hurt again? then what? we are relying on an old RB to carry the load? That's dangerous. So only Alvin keels' clients hold out? I'm with you if he is definitely going to walk BUT I still wouldn't do it w/ a div rival. The problem is we have no idea if he will walk, you are speculating. Again, the same thing was proven w/ Jenkins- should we trade him for a pick? his value will never be higher and we know we can win w/o him. You don't know if leon is bent on playing for the Jets, you despise his agent and that is clouding your judgement. His agent is trying to create a market, when leon comes out and says he wants to leave NY then I might believe it. You cannot believe anything agents or coaches/execs tell us in the media.
junc....Jenkins' role is completely different than Leon's....Jenks' plays a premium position, while Leon's position can be filled with less difficulty. We've been over this.....Jenkins/Leon isn't a good comparison. if i had my way...i wouldn't want Leon to go to a divisional rival in any capacity. But this is a unique situation. If we can get SOMETHING for him....rather than watch him choose between the Phins and Pats next year during FA....i'll take the pick every time. His agent is trying to drive up Leon's value...that was apparent when they outright refused the contract offer last fall....and it blew up in their faces.....the worst part is....Keels hasn't acknowledged that yet....and is still trying to inflate Leon's market value....when he doesn't have a leg to stand on (no pun intended).
Obviously jenkins role was replaced pretty well. I am more concerned about the RBs than the NT's. It is a great comparion but both were guys that were really important to their sides of the ball. We survived short term w/o both, can we do it again? I don't know.
Wait, so your point is nobody knows anything and that we can't trust the coaches/personnel guys/agents, but you personally know Keels' motivation? It would be unbelievably stupid for Rex to call Leon a 3rd option if he wasn't in fact our 3rd RB right now. What does he gain from that? Coaches lie to build players up, not tear them down. And please, defend Keels and name a single MORE absurd hold out than Andre Smith's. He was criticized all around the league.
how can you be more concerned about the HBs?...barring injuries, we have one of the best HB tandems and olines in the league. And we haven't even seen what LT's impact will be yet. You can say you're worried about S.Greene's durability.....but that argument can be used for any player....
Yeah, Keels' motivation is pretty obvious- like all agents he wants his clients to get the most money possible so he makes the most money possible off of them. Rex is an emotional guy, he was pissed leon didn't show up- there's nothing more to that. if you believe everything he says I can't help you. I have never said keels was a good agent but every agent has holdouts, every agent has negotiations like this one. To act like keels is the only guy is absurd.
You're more concerned about the single most plug-and-play position in the league than the most important position on the post important part of this team?
Pouha proved he can play at a pretty high level. Our best RB is a 2nd year player who has been injury prone in his limited playing time, our vet is ancient as far as Rbs go w/ the amount of carries he has in him and leon may or may not be here. yeah I'm concerned, I think the ceiling is very high. I think Greene can be a big time back, I think LT will be much better in a reduced role BUT that needs to be proven.
Pouha was a rookie at 26, his football life is alot younger than jenkins and he has been healthy 4 of 5 years. Jenkins has missed most of 3 of the last 6 seasons for him. I am NOT saying Pouha is better than jenkions just that he proved he can play while Kris was out. I love the depth up front for this year. I feel like I know what Poha will give us for 2010 if jenkins was out, I don't know what we'll get from the RBs.
Not the only one, but the worst one. Keels is an absolute disaster and may well have destroyed Leon's chances of staying on this team.
To act like Alvin Keels is a typical agent is an insult to agents. You need to do more research, junc. Keels hasn't just been a disaster for the Jets, for Leon Washington and for Andre Smith, he's been a disaster for just about every client he's ever represented. This latest piece of nonsense is just more of the same from Keels. I don't mind that it's sneaky, devious, self-serving; I do mind that it's blatantly transparent and pointless. "The Jets never offered us what they quoted to the press or we would have signed." AYFKM?! The time for public leverage would have been right then, Alvin! If the point of this little charade was to gain public support for Leon Washington, I wouldn't mind. If the point was to force a trade, I wouldn't mind. But the point, the sole point of this silliness is for Alvin Keels to save face. That's pathetic.
With the way Keels has been acting and the news on Leons contract offers ( if true ) sadly this is turning into a bad blood situation even with him back idk how much love would be going around like old times. Unfortunately if this gets any worse it will turn leverage some what away from the Jets being as teams would look at it as, team doesn't want player player doesn't want team, which amounts to low offers. So I'd say lets trade his asap before we get nothing out of this but a RB who will be here for a year will limited touches.
Chances are he won't be back..chances are greater the Jets won't get shit for him..what else is new? Time to get serious..if the Jets really thought Washington would be the backup to Greene they would have never signed Tomlinson and number 3 backs are easy to replace..even late in the draft.
