I feel you on that, but there IS a history of excellent DL play from lesser draft picks. MrE brought up Bannan and Gregg and those are both good, underrated players. It might be credit to Ozzie for finding those players, or it might be credit to Rex for coaching those players, but I think the fact is that those players look better in hindsight than they did in the draft. To me it feels like how Denver (Shanny's Denver) could continually make solid OLs and RBs out of late draft picks - their system was able to work with that. Maybe Rex's system of slanting, strong DLs who focus largely on run-stopping allows him to make starters out of limited athletes. Truth be told, I do feel that youth is needed on the line, but I'd rather add the best OG than the fifth-best DL. Of course, that likely means that next year I'll be desperate for a DL
Mays really ran in the 4.2 by hand time. I think his official was a 4.43 or something, it would be nice if Cimini would actually write the official time. I'm not a big fan of the list, but Mays has been growing on me. How awesome would it be to have a safety that kills people. However, because of Gholston, I'd be extremely scared to make that pick. What do our draft guru's think about him?
. I had a ton a push back here when I said I liked Campbell as a 3-4 end, some liked him, but NOONE here. I don't like Wooton as a first rounder, but I would take him over Tyson Alau at this point. From what I see: how active he is with his hands and feet, size and strength, thick lower body, can drop really low on the edge for a guy his size, natural athlete, good head on his shoulders(no slouches academically at NW) he can be a natural 5 with a higher upside than many. The knee is my biggest concern. I like Odrick better and find Carrington a good 3\4th round option, but Wooton will be starting for someone.
As ridiculous as that sounds, if the Jets did this, a lot of people would be lining up to drink Rex's man juice and call it genius.
This almost guarantees the pick will be a WR. Welcome to New York, Mr.Tate! May I call you Golden? Goldy? Actually I don't know enough about college ball to say but the USC receiver intrigues me. Supposedly a great route runner and good rapport with Sanchez already. Can't ever have enough of those kind of guys.
Odrick would be a real nice pick if still on the board. The jets are building the right way, from the lines out! Though with Green and Seymour gone, I see the Pats looking closely at him at their spot.
It has been widely speculated that the electronic timer was faulty. They did video comparisons of Mays (alleged 4.43) and someone else (who ran a 4.38 i believe) and Mays was clearly faster than him
Yeah, I expect the Pats will probably either grab Odrick or Kindle to shore up that front 7. I don't really have any reasoning for that except that I would like either of those 2 and I'd hate to see them to to New England.
We will pick either DL/DE or OL with our first rnd, Tanny understands the value we can get at the end of the 1st for this type of pick. See Mangold for prime example . i think we will go OL personally.
I'd pick you before I'd pick anything described as "Gholston like". I've never met you and have no idea of your athletic abilities, but I'm still willing to bet that you'd be a more committed tackler than Gholston.
I agree - Gholston was 6th on their draft board. Low and behold, their first 5 guys they wanted got taken. What can you do?
