Yeah Sanchez isnt going to be a Kurt Warner in the near future, but it doesnt mean adding someone like Marshall would be a waste IF the conditions are right. Obviously Tanny isnt going to trade for him unless he gets a good deal/value. If Sanchez had such an insanely elite recieving corps theres absolutely no doubt that hed be able to make big plays. Weve seen him make big plays before, and that was when we only had 2 receivers getting absolutely smothered, and no halfbacks who could catch the ball. We will have 3rd downs, we will have 3rd and longs, and we will have mistakes/penalties putting us into long yard situations. If we have a weapon like Marshall then its going to make things that much smoother when we throw the ball. Plus itll make teams think twice about stacking the box when you have monsters like Marshall/Braylon on the outside. I just dont see the point of all the arguing, if the price is right we gotta bite. Its that simple
Last season (the end of) it certainly seemed that way, but if you remember Rex got Schottie to introduce green/red plays for MS. Hes certainly not out of the woods by a long shot, but this guys learning curve is incredible. Outside of the dark brigade in here, I don't know anyone (with a valid POV) that says that Sanchez will not have a great career. Sanchez needs experience, after all the tape he watches, there is no substitute to doing it in the flesh.
2 INTs in the last 5 games (including the playoff run)...and a berth in the AFC championship.....yeah, i'm pretty sure he's progressed. The kid is learning....and he's putting a shitload of extra time in watching tape and working with the coaching staff during the offseason If you still think he needs training wheels.....then i can't help you.
And you're simplifying it more than it needs to be. Yes, sophomore QBs can have great seasons, like Dan Marino did or Matt Ryan had the potential to do. Sanchez is coming of 20 INTs in the regular season. He still needs to work on his field vision and reading defenses. It's a folly to assume that he is going to turn it around to be one of the top 3 QBs in the league next season. It doesn't automatically DQ him from 30/10 but it doesn't exactly put the odds square on him to put up those numbers. 30/10 is a best case scenario for a dreamer right now. I'd be much happier to see him actually hit his checkdowns on a consistent basis or throw the ball out of bounds rather than try to throw the ball up like he did last season. He can be a great QB in this league but he still needs work and if the CS has him chasing 30 TDs this season, chances are that he is going to throw more than 10 INTs in the process.
This isn't a trap question........ How good do you think Sanchez is going to be this year? With a good slot WR? Without a good slot WR? Just your best guess Td's vs Int's are fine..... For instance I think he will be in the 18td/ 15 Int area.............
Ryan and Schottenheimer still want a ground-and-pound system. If you can't realize that this is the formula for a QB who is still developing, I cannot help you.
This is probably the most realistic assessment for Sanchez in 2011 I have seen on this board thus far. I think the INT number will probably be lower than 15, more like 10-12 range.
fairly sure his check-downs and completion rate will go through the roof this season, one of the reasons we signed LT. If Leon stays as well......... Don't think anyone is saying that Hes going to be P Manning next season, but I'll bet hes certainly in the top 10/8 QBs next season
Ooooooo can I play. LT out of the backfield changes alot of things. I think he does way better than your guess. 24 TDs / 12 INTs
i never said they were going to veer away from a ground n' pound system......where did you that idea? My assumption is that the playbook will open up a little more for Sanchez in his 2nd season, and adding an elite wideout like Marshall would only further his development. You seem to be of the opinion that Sanchez still has the training wheels on. If he did, do you think the Jets would've made it to the AFC championship?
30/10 like Rock said is approaching Peyton numbers. I'm thinking around 20/12 which would be fine in the offense that Rex wants to run. As you said earlier: He could hit a huge stride this season but it would take a couple of games before he got there. He needs reps more than anything right now, and he is going to make mistakes while he's taking those reps early on.
i have no idea how Sanchez is going to do this year.....not without knowing what the roster will look like after TC. One thing i will predict though.....his INT total should be well under 20. This kid learns from his mistakes....we saw this throughout the season.
Ryan is on record saying that. To quote him " A more balanced offense....." nothing mentioned about ground & pound.
Like a wristband with a color coded system that tells him how much of a priority he needs to put on protecting the ball vs. making a big play? Like the one that the CS used to help him get to the AFCC? Like the one he was still wearing while he was playing in the AFCC?
Thanks.............. anything more of a turnaround than this and I think Sanchez will be a surefire superstar. I can't see him being a superstar this year, not that I don't want him to be. I just can't see him going from a 13/20 guy to a 30/10 guy. That would be one of the greatest turnarounds in NFL history for a sophomore QB. I just do not see that this year, not a chance even if they traded for a lobotomized Marshall.
Flacco still has his training wheels on and the Ravens made it pretty far with a pass defense not even almost as good as ours. Sanchez DOES still have his training wheels on, but that doesnt mean we arent going to occasionally take them off. No way are they just going to turn Sanchez loose next year, unless something like Greene getting injured happens
When he hit the skids in the middle of last season, I was very happy to see him still out there and not dumped , so KC could confirm himself. The CS know exactly what they're doing.
so?....that system worked for him in his rookie year....i thought the move was brilliant. All the kid did was succeed when Rex made that change.....and you're viewing it as a negative? LOL.
Shonn Greene as a starter with Tomlinson spelling him is a ground and pound system. If Leon was given an expanded role in the offense as something more than a 3rd down back/KR then I would believe that the Jets were moving away from what they ran last season(when they were completely misusing Leon).
