As talented as Marshall is, his off-the-field issues are a big concern for me which is why primarily, I'd stay away. But I won't deny how giddy I'd be to see him in Jet green. I'm sure his first year with us, he'll be on his best behavior, but after he gets that contract and starts to get comfortable, that's when I'll begin to worry. How will he behave 2-3 years down the road? Can he stay out of the limelight in NY? These are the things that concern me.

i dont see why, if the price is right, that this would be a problem. really the only on field issue here could be the fact that marshall is used to getting the ball about 100 times a year, and the jets might have completed about 100 passes total last year.

off field might not really be a worry either. rex and the jet organization seem to have no qualms about bringing in guys with baggage as long as they have the talent to outweigh it. in my opinion, marshall's talent is in that area for sure. also, maybe he can teach braylon to catch.

I dont think we make this move without getting rid of Braylon or most likely Cotchery. We are a supposed running team who just made a move to get LT to keep the team that way then we sign a number 1 receiver. We better have like 90 offensive plays a game to keep everyone happy. Marshall and Braylon both will want number 1 receiver catches. Cotch and Keller will both theirs too which they should because both are damn good at their position. Plus with leon and LT catching out of the backfield I just can not see us being able to do this. Not unless we throw atleast 30 times a game which we shouldnt because Sanchez is only in his second year.

IMO this is a move you make with a vet qb not one early in his career. 4 years from now Ill be saying lets sign Marshall.

    Do not.
    Get rid.
    Of Cotchery.

Trade Edwards or Leon if you must but don't discard our best receiver.

Let me ask you something....if signing Marshall ended up being the difference in the Jets winning a SuperBowl....would you really give a shit about his baggage?

I'm not saying that's the case....but what i am saying is that the pros could certainly outweigh the cons.

The guy catches everything....didn't he have 20 receptions in one game recently?!...and that was with Kyle Fucking Orton.

My bottom line is this.....i want the Jets to win a Super Bowl....and I trust Rex and Tanny to put the pieces in place to get us there. If Marshall is part of that equation....then so be it. At least he's an elite talent... It's not like he's Freddie Mitchell.

Thinking about this further I think we are just keeping our nose in it to monitor the situation. I think we don't want Miami or NE to get him who are both in the need for a WR I think we are trying to keep the price tag high for them.

Not saying we don't have a bright future but 4 years from now we may not have this much collective talent, with such a great blend of vets and youth, along with chemistry. Honestly once your time in the NFL comes you have to capitalize and do whatever you can to increase your chances to win the super bowl because it may not come again for a very long time. We just went to the AFCC game for first time in 12 years. We probably all thought we were gonna be contenders for years but we weren't. Look at the 2000 Ravens. We say our defense is #1 but their defense was legendary and easily better then ours. After they won they haven't been back to the super bowl since even with the addition of Ed Reed for example.

I'm just saying we don't know what our roster will look like in the future and theres too much parity in the NFL to guarantee long term success with injuries and such.

Obviously if it leads to a superbowl I don't care. There's no guarantee this leads to a superbowl.

My concern is related to the long term outlook here. He's going to demand a long term high priced deal that will put a strain on our ability to keep the core of this team together. Add to that the fact that he's one more fuckup away from a LONG suspension.

It would be a very high risk move. I've never debated Marshall's ability.

  13. Maybe it's because I'm just so sick of losing. But I'm to the point where I dont have a problem w/ bringing in a few controversial personalities if the talent is right. We have a coach that appears to be outstanding w/ mitigating these type of individuals and getting people to perform to their abilities. I think there's something to be said to having a few antagionists in your locker room to keep competition up and to combat the opposition.

This theory of trying to have a team full of boy scouts hasn't exactly yielded us much success. In fact, we passed on the chance to draft arguably the best DT of his era in Warren Sapp based on this philosophy.

I'm not saying let's go out and be the raiders or Bengals..but I just think there's something to be said to adding alittle fire to the locker room if the talent is there.

Sweet, that's the perfect rationale to justify trading team-first players and valuable draft picks to mortgage the future of the team on an immature woman beater who thinks the world of himself.

  15. If he brings us a super bowl I could care less. Not to mention I fail to see how trading a 3rd down rb/return specialist coming off catastrophic injury who refuses to sign a 1 year tender and a mid round pick is "Mortgaging the future".

Additionally, the player in question for trade(Leon) hasn't exactly been a positive for the locker room this offseason has he?

Braylon AND a 2nd? I don't your point. Denver is already NOT seeking a first. You want to give Braylon AND a 2nd? I would rather keep Braylon and the pick. Marshall and Braylon's value are about the same. Marshall is more talented and Braylon has a much lesser chance of ending up with a season ban. Maybe a 2nd and a 3rd day pick for Marshall if we really wanted him (our 2nd is 4 picks away from a 3rd rounder).

I realize there are no guarantees....but i can appreciate the fact this regime is doing everything in their power to better this team....unlike past regimes.

I'll leave the numbers to Tanny....he's done an excellent job with the cap/roster so far....there's no reason to start doubting him now. I'm sure he'll have a contingency plan to deal with the contract situations next season.

I alluded to this in an earlier post....Tanny would be wise to stick something in the contract to protect the Jets....in case Marshall decides to fall off the wagon of good behavior.

i get the feeling from Rex he's willing to overlook past transgressions with problem players...it's starting to become a trend with him (ie B.Edwards, A.Cromartie)

agreed...there's certainly some risk.....but we were so close to a berth in the SuperBowl .....it's time to start rolling the dice and take some risks.

You really need to stop comparing B. Edwards and A. Cromartie with Brandon Fucking Marshall. It's not even remotely close.

And it's not just "some risk", it would be a HUGE risk that would be trading part of the future and risk keeping other parts for a guy likely to end up in prison and/or suspended from the NFL.

Jesus. That's pretty pathetic, actually. But it falls right in line with your 'woe is me for being a Jets fan' drama schtick, I guess.

And if you think we'd get Marshall for Leon and a mid-round pick, you're living in a fantasy land. Plus, aside from Rex saying he's disappointed in Leon not being there, there's hasn't been shit mentioned about the affect on the lockerroom. But justify away, Kurt.
