Are there really people out there who will watch hard Knocks in late Aug-early September then rush to the phone and call to purchase their PSLs?
Maybe people that don't know that much about the team will be more inclined to buy tickets when they see the kind of players the Jet's have.
probably. there are all kinds of crazy people out in new york/jersey. tell some random guy in jersey a player on the jets used to run a slave trade, and i'm sure somebody will come by New Jets Stadium to check it out.
New stadium, loud-mouth coach, trash-talking players, popular franchise QB, recently acquired HOF RB, and now even MORE exposure? The NY Jets probably marketed themselves to the point where most casual football fans with no real allegience will turn our way. Woody is a smart businessman.
Not in as simple terms as you're trying to put it. Putting the Jets on this show is a marketing tool that broadens the scope of the fanbase, which in turn raises the chances of newer fans to buy PSLs. More fans equals more money. It's not that difficult. Not that I think it's an entirely bad thing, but I'm not going to pretend that part of their reasoning for something like this isn't to sell tickets.
We have a tremendous fanbase in terms of #s, they exhausted it by trying to extort us for PSLs. yes this will help the brand of the NY Jets but they are trying to sell PSLs for 2010 not 2011 or '12, this show will do nothing for PSL sales.
Yeah, the fanbase is still here in the same numbers, we just have a lot less money to spend than the Jets thought we did.
So what? Is the world going to end on December 31st of 2010? Advertising is for future profit as well as immediate profit. Woody knows he's not going to sell all of those PSLs in 2010.
The goal was to have them all sold before 2010, exposure never hurts a team but PSL wise this is pretty worthless. Do you guys think people were running out to buy bengal tickets last year? do you think they all of a sudden have more fans based off of that? Come on.
I think that strategies to sell PSLs are a bit pointless at the moment, given no-one is likely to commit to a new licence without knowing whether there's even going to be any football to watch in 2011.
I think the Bengals got more exposure because of Hard Knocks, definitely, and I think they expanded their fanbase a bit. Although I don't think they have as much going for them in a PR sense as the Jets do. Rex, Sanchez, a loudmouth like Bart, the best corner in the league in Revis... all of that, coming off a Cinderella season, and now moving into a new stadium. Why do you think Sabol is frothing at the chance to do this with the Jets? It's a hype-machine's wet dream. This may or may not sell more PSL's, but you can guarantee that Woody will leave no stone unturned in the effort.
Something both positive and negative.....Kerry Rhodes has to be kicking himself that he isn't going to be on Hard Knocks.
I know he's not Bill Parcells just yet, and there are things he needs to improve on, but his team knows how to have fun and when to work, and when they work, they work hard. Rex is unfiltered to begin with and lets his players speak their mind so we are a perfect fit for this format. Plus its gonna piss off the beat writers like Cimini because HBO will better access and Fatcesa will be jealous of the Jets getting all this exposure
