Awesome. Great song. But yeah, I honestly believe we've become a completely different team with Rex Ryan at the helm. He'll want to show everyone just who's house it really is, especially Fran.
We have had some bad luck. We played them in '84 when we stunk(losing 6 of our last 7) We played them in '96 when we went 1-15 We played them in '99 wheh we had all the injuries We played them in '03 when Chad was just coming bakc from the injry(though they wound up stinking as well, I don't think they won another game after they beat us). We played in '07 when we had that terrible team. Hopefully we don't have bad luck in '11 and we can beat the Giants, Skins and Eagles in particular.
I believe the last time we played them in '07, we also had the lead by at least the half. We gave that up when Manning connected with Plax near the sidelines and...(aaaah I'm forgetting his name...he's actually on the Browns now, or was last year) didn't make the tackle or even push him out of bounds. Plax took it to the house and they took the lead to seal the game.
I'm at work and can't search very good. When does this begin? July? I'll need to get HBO before then...
We had the lead at the half, a double digit lead in the 3rd and we led entering the 4th. Plax stiff armed Andre Dyson for that TD which gave the Giants the lead for good.
I landed at Newark, checked the score on my phone and we were up 20-10. By the time I got my bag and car we were down late. Part of that is because Newark Airport sucks and of course so did the Jets that year.
That's the one. For a shitty team, we played them tough and had a chance to win. It's always about braggin rights with the Giants, so facing them for a first time in the new shared stadium will amp Rex and the team.
It's amazing to me we haven't beaten them since 1993, when we beat them in 1993 we took a 4-2 series lead and now we trail 6-4.
Here is my main problem with Hard Knocks... last year Rex and company moved TC to Cortland to avoid creating distractions for the team, and to help them become a tight-knit unit. Now they are going to have camera crews everywhere, and a few players will be singled out and given the spotlight. It kind of flies in the face of the entire reason they moved to Cortland in the first place.
I think the distractions are more about being at home and dealing with your everyday stuff that doesn't involve football--house, family, cars, bank, etc. You go upstate to a college and set up in a dorm and it's all football all the time. There's already tons of media at camp, a few more cameras aren't going to make a difference.
The cameras at camp aren't even close to being as invasive as the media presence of one of these Hard Knocks crews. Regular media is limited to a team-approved schedule and they can shut them out if they need to. Hard Knocks gets carte blanche and are contractually entitled to be there. And if you've ever seen episodes of HK, they are pretty much everywhere inside the workings of the team. I'm not saying it's a terrible idea, I'll end up watching every episode. It just seems kind of hypocritical to say you're getting away from distractions and then invite one into your camp.
I thought the moves was for a few reasons. One of the main reasons was to move away from NYC completely and avoid distractions. The other reason they moved to Cortland was so that people won't have the option to go back home to their families that live near NYC, LI, Florham Park Complex, or Stadium. Forcing them to room together and build that chemistry from jumpstreet. I don't really see how adding cameras will interfere to any of that. Another thing to keep in mind is, there's really nothing in Cortland to begin with. I think there was a video last year where the craziest night the players had was heading out to a local Applebee's in a group for dinner. I don't know how an additional camera or two will distract or interfere with the Cortland bonding or bring forth distractions.
this is the most important thing to me. cortland is still a shit hole with nothing to do and having a camera crew in camp isn't gonna change that. as far as what rex did last year and now contradicting his goals by allowing a distraction into camp i just don't see the problem. the roster is very much the same as last year and everyone who has been added so far seems to be very happy to be here. last year rex was trying to breath life into a team that had it all sucked out of them by mangini. this year everyone knows what rex wants and the entire team appears to be drinking the kool-aid. a little exposure to the HBO camera's isn't going to mess up the chemistry between the players and the coaching staff unless that chemistry wasn't very strong to begin with. i really don't see that being the case.
Haven't seen the show, but again I don't think those are the kind of distractions they're talking about in bringing camp to Cortland. Think about when you go away on business, you put stuff like the yard, dishes, dog, etc out of your mind and you're full-on with work. Not to say Hard Knocks might not be a different kind of distraction, but that has nothing to do with the kind of stuff they were thinking of when moving camp.
Rex would not approve anything that gets in the way of preparing for the season, and since he went through it with the Ravens, he must be comfortable with us being on the show. Regardless of how bad Woody needs to sell PSL's and thinks this will help him, If Rex said no way, I believe Woody would not over rule the coach. The Jets will not let anything get in the way of winning the Super Bowl but they are trying to build their brand. I trust Rex and Tannenbaum with their decision making. And its a great show, I have been watching since day 1.
Bart Scott isn't crazy about it: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/25/sports/football/25jets.html?ref=sports interesting.
oh, also Everyone who is on this show gets off to 2-2 or 3-1 starts. Calm down. Let us remember that most of those teams had shitty coaches. Herm with the chiefs, and Dave Campo? No wonder those teams sucked ass. Wade Phillips isn't a good coach, and his underachieving Cowboys team went 9-7 two years ago. The Jets have a good coach and a good team. They'll be fine.
