All comments appreciated. Round 1 OLB Everson Griffen USC The biggest missing piece to our team is an elite pass rusher. I think Griffen fits best into our scheme out of those that will be available at 29. This guy is a freak strength and speed wise, and a terror when it comes to chasing down QB's. If Earl Thomas, Brandon Graham, or Dan Williams happen to fall they would be can't miss picks. Round 2 DE Tyson Alualu Cal Played 3-4 DE at Cal and has the strength and motor to be able to contribute next year. We need youth on the DL and he can replace Douglas. If either of Arrelious Benn or Demaryius Thomas fall to our 2nd round pick, we will have to look long and hard at them. Round 4 CB Amari Spievey Iowa Strong, physical CB that will excel in Rex's press man coverage scheme. Perfect as a nickle too. The 4th round is where Tanny makes his money, and in this years draft he will have many options. It really depends on who falls to us. I also considered NT's Linval Joseph or Torrell Troup, or CB Akwasi Owusu-Ansah with this pick. Round 5 S Myron Rolle FSU My favorite pick in this draft. An uncomparably intelligent prospect, Rolle would thrive in Rex's scheme and learn from being in the same defense as Revis. Round 6 WR Freddie Barnes Bowling Green I hope he will still be here, its a deep WR class and hopefully teams are scared off by his 40 time. Kyle Williams from Arizona State and Marcus Easley from UConn are alternatives. Round 7 OL Ciron Black LSU UDFA : TE Michael Hoomanawanui Illinois, FB John Conner Kentucky, RB Andre Dixon UConn, P Zoltan Mesko -I realize most people have barnes in the 4th, but thats where I think shipley goes and then barnes a round or 2 later. -Ciron Black probably wont last til the 7th, but I was going to use that pick for OL filler the whole time and he had a shit combine. Players I regret passing on: Cam Thomas and Chris Cook in the 2nd Major Wright and Linval Joseph in the 4th Norwood, Navarro, Hardy, or Selvie in the 5th (whomever fell)
I really like this draft. I've been a fan of Griffen's for a long time. I think all of the UDFAs will get drafted, especially Dixon and Hoomanawanui. Taking Spievey in the fourth makes a lot of sense. AOA, Joseph, and Troup will be long gone before the 4th round. Benn and Thomas have absolutely no shot at being there when our second rounder comes around. Alualu would be a hell of a pick up. Freddie Barnes and Myron Rolle are two of my favorite players in this draft.
Zoltan! Griffen is still a headscratcher to me in terms of how well he'll do as a 3-4 OLB. I do like the rest of the picks.. they just make sense. I want a punter drafted the same way I want Pouncey. It has to be done.
I would really like this draft, but don't think Spievey will be there in round 4 and with the way it seems like Alualu is moving up the charts, he might not even be around late round 2.
I'm thinking CB Amari Spievey may go in the second round. I've read that a few teams even have a first round grade on him.
Totally random, but I had a dream last night that we traded down with the Cowboys, and then drafted two players who had the same name. I'm not sure what that name was, but I'm definitely disturbed that I had a dream about the NFL Draft. As for your picks: I like it. I'm not as sold on Griffin as you are, ironically, on guys like Norwood or Sapp (or Hughes)--maybe after Gholston I shy away from these type of guys, but I haven't seen him play enough to make an opinion. Alualu seems to be a guy the entire board has fallen in love with, if he's there I like the pick. As for Rolle, I'm not sure he's good enough in coverage or blitzing--he seems like somebody who's not going to be an impact player at the next level, rather someone who's just steady and does their job. I think we want more flash at the position, but that's just me. Barnes won't be there in the 6th, and neither will Black in the 7th, but those are filler picks for "slot WR" and "depth OL," so okay.
If Spivey goes in the 4th, especially late in the 4th I would be very happy but I think hes off the board by the middle of the third
I would be Riverdancing for joy if that was our draft. I don't see a lot of it happening, but it'd be awesome. It would have to be the luckiest draft ever.
This would be an incredible draft, and I LOVE all of the players selected...I just don't see it happening. I think every player drafted will go higher then where we select, and all of the UDFA's will get drafted. But if this happened I would be fucking pumped.
Griffen has a lot of question marks... I'm not totally sold on him. He seems like a risky pick. I'd be fine with Alualu and Spievy.. But I read somewhere that Spievy received as high as a first round grade from some teams so I doubt he'll make it that far. I'll try and find the link, but I too heard that he's been rated very highly. The next three are all solid picks, but I get the feeling that there's not a great chance they'll be there at the point they're selected. I'd be happy with this draft, but I think a lot of these players won't be around when they're selected. And personally, I wouldn't be surprised if Thomas or Benn fell a bit... In the last few years we've seen receivers fall more than expected and these guys both have some moderate question marks. EDIT: This is from walterfootball.com ... Not sure how credible the source is, but this is where I found it "3/10/10: Amari Spievey, who impressed at the Combine, has reportedly received a first-round grade from some teams."
I realize a lot of my picks are hopeful, thats why I included alternate picks for some. Every year prospects fall way further than they were projected, and you never know who will go exactly where. I agree Spivey will probably go in the 3rd, and barnes maybe in the 5th. I went to high school with Spivey and had a few classes with him. Amazing athlete. He was a RB/CB in HS and his Senior year we won the state championship and he set school records in TDs and yards. He also played basketball and started at point for 2 1/2 years. He has grown a lot since HS, he was pretty skinny back then. They said he was too small for RB in college, and I doubted he would be good as anything else. Saw him play in a few games this year and was truly impressed.
