SI Article Obviously if you can see my avatar I'm a smoker myself. I wonder why the NFL even cares about this its not like its a enhancer like steroids or HGH. Yes it could have some repercussions and lower a players ability but if your judging an athlete but what you've seen on film, interviews and measurables and you know he's smoked what does it matter the player obviously can still compete at a high  level.
IMO, way, way, WAY too much time, effort, and concern is wasted in this country on marijuana use and/or prevention of use. I've had friends who are 'heads and friends who are drunks, and the 'heads are a lot easier to deal with in general. The fact that one substance is legal and taxed and the other is illegal is kind of ridiculous from a common sense standpoint.
I'm agreeing with a pats fan? Man Marijuana can bring anyone together. Need to use it in middle east talks maybe we can have world peace
Well sportsmen in our society represent role models for youngsters. Therefore the fact that they use products such as marijuana is bad advice for young kids that watch and follow football. My question is why do they talk about it so much in the media and don't take care of it under the radar! Bad publicity is still publicity! We are all pretty sure a lot of rich football players take other recreational drugs such as cocaine however we don't see articles about that and that's good!!! Honestly I agree I don't care that players take marijuana themselves but I do think they shouldn't as role models and since it is illegal for us if they get caught they should be sanctioned like everybody else but under the radar. Don't talk about it youngsters would want to try it themselves!
I agree drunks are usually more of a problem, but I get really frustrated trying to deal with potheads at my job, specifically trying to get them to listen to me and actually comprehend what I say. It seems like the ones that are chronic users act high even when they haven't been smoking up. I guess it becomes a learned behavior? Its really frustrating having to tell them 15 times to do the same thing and have it done at a snail's pace or incorrectly altogether. I'd have to say that pot-heads piss me off more. Of course all aren't this way, but it seems to ones I know are.
Absolutely absurd article. It is much more prevalent in the NFL then the article states. Its pretty much legal here in MA and soon will be throughout the US. Guys in the NFL can drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes there is no reason they can't smoke some weed to wind themselves down. I know My NCAA football 2009 game goes straight down the tubes when i'm not high. Rex should be ripping spliffs up and down the sideline and then lets see what kind of blitz packages he can think of. I think we are in a better situation now then in the 80's when the nfl had guys like LT out there high on coke ripping people's heads off.
there will be a backlash from people my age that still havent grown up and continue to use marijuana around and in front of their kids. anyone who states it doesnt affect you is simply in denial.
There is nothing wrong with smoking marijuana. THC is one of the least toxic substances known to man. In over 5000 years of documented use ZERO people have died as a result of smoking it. Also, professional athletes aren't obligated to be role models to young people. In the words of the immortal Charles Barkley "I'm not a role model... Just because I dunk a basketball doesn't mean I should raise your kids."
I'm shocked--SHOCKED--that college kids have apparently been smoking marijuana. Thank you NFL for blowing the lid off of this closely guarded secret.
Not entirely true some people do have an allergic reaction one of my friends is one of them he tried it once and nearly died. I also know that Bruce Lee died allegedly from an allergic reaction though those facts are blurred.
Except for the fact that it's, you know, illegal. I couldn't care less if people smoke it, but it isn't legal.
That is just idiotic!!!!!! Yeah maybe marijuana won't kill you but it would do you good! Lack of motivation is what comes up to my mind first! You are unproductive rather you want it or not. But this is not about how good or bad marijuana is for you but how athletes are role models. You want to it or not if you are a high profile athlete you represent a role model to other citizens. YES you do. all of your actions are scrutinized. It is not because you are famous that you can do what ever you want! Honestly there are some dumb fucks out there that would do whatever famous people do because they think they are "cool". You have a responsibility over kids even if you don't want because of the media exposure! I just think this is ridiculous because the NFL should take care of this under the radar!
Really? 14 states say otherwise http://medicalmarijuana.procon.org/view.resource.php?resourceID=000881 And yes I know this is medical use but I could easily use the excuse of concussions on players as a reason one might smoke.
