I don't see Spiller lasting until 29 but I think there's a better then average shot Best makes it to our pick. If you had the choice, between retaining Leon or getting the 2nd round pick and taking Best with the first, what would you do?
I'm not sure, because Schotty still doesnt really use Washington the right way, I'm aware that Best probably has a better skill set but your asking Best to step into the same situation as Washington, and while Best may have more upside (maybe even depending on the extent of Washington's injury) I dont really know if it makes sense to draft him and pay him first round money, when we could probably get a Dexter McCluster latter in the draft to do something similar
I'd get Best. This is a no brainer. As much as I love Leon, he makes his living with his legs and suffered a fairly catastrophic injury. Beyond that, he's 28 and anything we commit to him will likely be too long and too much. Better to grab Best, a similar type of player with an entire career ahead of him. He can be a difference maker for years to come. -X-
I'd get rid of Leon Washington for a second and draft the best player available at every pick. 2011's draft will be loaded with third down type backs. I'd rather get one next year and let LT and Greene share carries. Washington is the forgotten man. 2010's draft is too deep at certain positions to go after a player that will be used very little.
I guess we forget that LT can be the pass catching back on 3rd downs I really hope we can get a 2nd for Leon.
I totally agree. BUT i still think we'd be missing an electric back who can catch screens and dart for a ton of yards which could vastly improve Sanchez's game and numbers. Im all for trading leon for a second but id use that on a guy like Jahvid Best, Dexter McCluster, or Jonathan Dwyer ,which ever falls to us, who can explode for yards and can develop with Mark.
I get what you're saying, but Dwyer isn't like those other 2 backs at all. He only had 15 college receptions. He's a strong dude, but he doesn't have the quicks or elusiveness of McCluster or Best.
You are right on that point. Kind of just fell in love with his 40 time and Power, my mindset was a quick guy who can bash up linebackers but considering he doesnt have much experience with catching the ball i would opt to not take him as that " screen" RB but he would be a steal in the late second. But for the sake of dicussion id replace Dwyer with a later round pick up of James Stark who had 52 receptions for 361 receiving yards.
You do realize that Jon Dwyer ran horribly at the combine? The guy's times probably hurt him more than the system he played in. LT is going to be out third down back and that's a guarantee. Greene is going to be the back that punishes the defense. We need someone that can take some of the punishment away from. Someone like Ryan Mathews, Toby Gerhart, Ben Tate, or Montario Hardesty. Mathews will be gone before our pick. Gerhart will probably go mid-second. Hardesty and Tate will more than likely be there when we pick in the second round, but I'm not sure they'll be the most valuable players available at that spot. James Starks would be a nice option in the later rounds. Southern Illinois' Deji Karim is a big time sleeper. UCONN's Andre Dixon, Oklahoma's Chris Brown, and Miami's Javarris James are some of the later round options that I really like.
If best is there at # 29 and LW is not part of the Jets future plans..Best would make alot of sense. I believe Best can be a special player in this league. He reminds me of a smaller version of Marshall Faulk who would be a great compliment to Greene Teams all around the league are going w/ a 2 back system. Sure we already have LT and Greene...but we're also the best and most determined running team in football. It makes sense to bring in a big play RB like Best.
